Giles and jones both out

Today is a different kettle of fish. I think its there first home game, they will be well up for it and I'd imagine the pitch is not good. Not a game for pretty football and younger flair players, but experience and game management.

3-0 to Coventry it is.

utterly diabolical team... can see us getting spanked today.

We have been suffering with a lack of pace and creativity, so what does he go and do?

stick a load of past it plodders on the pitch.

Football can be so frustrating can't it?
Just last year Jones was buzzing but we had nothing attacking down the left.
Giles comes in and we looked well set for crosses from both sides.
Instead all we have are gaps for the opposition to exploit.

It looks like having a threat down one side worked better as the defence shuffled across to cover.
Now we have a double threat we look stretched at the back.
Doesn't help that the back 3 is not settled and Jones form has collapsed.
(he'll be back, last year he was amazingly consistent for a young player)

Aaaargh......who'd be a footie fan

I don't actually see the great distinction being drawn between Jones and Giles in this thread. Both are defensively dodgy, and otherwise Jones' stats are better albeit he has admittedly made some notable errors also. Giles' delivery looks better and more varied but doesn't seem to produce more.

Giles: 10 apps, 0 goals, 3 assists

Jones: 10 apps, 1 goal, 3 assists

They're both important players going forward (all we've got creatively really...) and shackled by the wingback roles IMO.

You could arguably have dropped most of our starting 11 in our last few dire performances, however, where are our forward thinking players, this looks a really poor team today on paper with little pace or positive thinking players. If we get battered today then I would drive Wilder to Bournemouth...

Yes. I was going to add to the thread that the elephant in the room is that two attacking wing backs hasn't been working this season.

The tactic may be bringing one or both the wingbacks on during the match after lulling the opposition into a false sense of security

I would have thought it would be this..

————————Steffen——————
Smith—Djiksteel—Fry—Clarke—Bola
——-Crooks—Howson—Mowett——
—————Watmore—Muniz————
Absolutely no creativity or pace in that side at all. Brave to drop the wing backs, if we concede first I can't see us getting back into the game. It looks like a last throw of the dice from wilder dropping Jones and Giles for a clean sheet make no mistake wilder is under extreme pressure a defeat today and bad result at home next week and I think he's gone.

I'm happy with this. People calling wilder out as having no plan B, now confused by a change of selection / philosophy / tactics. All sensible changes for me. Jones definitely needs time out of the starting lineup. Giles probably dropped too to keep the balance right.
Bit worried about creativity from midfield though as there will be more emphasis on that area of the pitch now.
This isn't a plan B. Hopefully we still get a result, because this is a game we can't be losing.

Jeez that looks terrible. After 2 weeks on the training ground is this the best he can come up with?

If he’s not prepared to play 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 or even 4-4-2 then might as well not bother.

Thing is we seem to have bet the house on wingbacks.
What happens now that isn’t working???

‘The magical press’ - the weirdly mystical tactical wizardry brought to these shores by the mighty jurgen klopp.. revolutionary!

Pretty sure it’s just an overload.. having more attaching players against the oppositions defending players. It is a risk, but with quick pacy players we are able to get back into position on the counter.. with erm Clarke, Mowett, Smith, Howson, McNair.. ooh err!

It’s not the system, it’s not the manager? (it is)

Far too much emphasis on playing ”the press” and having overlapping centre backs despite not having the players to play that way. Wilder is a gobshïte and a charlatan and the sooner he is sacked the better.
