Get out of this Johnson

I know a Covid ward sister who spent 18 hours a day at work during May 2020, she missed seeing her mother's birthday as celebrations weren't allowed, she couldn't attend her great aunt's funeral due to the guidelines in place, she went to work but she was too busy to mingle with colleagues and any contact was through PPE and none of it social, many times she spent the last moments with patients trying to be a comfort for those who would have died alone because of the restrictions.

There were no wine and pizza post work soiree's, no department picnics in the hospital gardens, no rewards beyond words of well done and are you ok from colleagues ? And if they had she wouldn't have gone because a) she was doing her bit and b) she was totally exhausted.

For her and many others who have made similar sacrifices this is the ultimate kick in the teeth, applauding on his newly renovated doorstep and giving thanks for the doctors who saved his life and all the time doing his own thing for no other reason than he wanted to, the example he has set is one of utter disregard and contempt for the vast majority who obeyed the rules, who did the right things and who understood that what they would like to do was less important than what they should do.

Critically, it also totally undermines his position as Leader of the Conservative's and the growing discontent from the anti-lockdown wing of his party, how can he go to the country and advise anyone on greater restriction when time and time again he has shown to disregard the rules he himself makes, his lack of competence and his over regard for his own intelligence leaves him exposed and his own hypocrisy undermines any authority within, he's now in a position that if he tries to introduce more measures he will face a vote of no-confidence and a leadership election that he will lose, his actions have corrupted his choices, he's probably not self aware enough to release he's a dead man walking, and that his actions are now controlled by the 99 rebels, do anything to upset them and he's gone. The lunatics haven't just taken over the asylum, they've renovated it and put it up for sale.

A 100% perfect summation

This was on 15th May?

The Cummings Barnard Castle eye test trip was on 28/3/20. The story broke on 23/5/20. The story was change in May 2021 that the trip was necessary for security reasons due to threats on his family.

So, this 'party' occurred in the period when the Conservatives appear to have regarded themselves above the law and before they had any inkling they couldn't get away with it.

I think Br14's dad, as nice a bloke as he may be, misses the point. I went to a funeral of a school friend during lockdown. It mad ethe entire affair particularly difficult for his family. At the same time, these ***** are... Oh I dunno, laughing at us.
I went to my Mothers funeral, and only the six were allowed to be there at that time. Guess what, the 100 or so at the adjacent funeral decided to ignore all the rules. I'm really still upset by that. What I see in that picture is a working group doing what they do at work, but outside. There were many meetings held daily across the country ,I agree with Br's Dad.
I asked myself at the time of the Cummins road trip and his bullsh^t excuses and the Scottish Chief Advisor who fell on her sword that there should be clarity from government on these sort of things ie travel etc but there wasn't. Government still has to govern, it's essential for them to meet at sometime face to face.

Sorry for your loss, TH, I'm not surprised at your anger at those at the cemetery that took no heed of guidelines but I am surprised at your defence of another group who clearly appear to be ignoring restrictions in place at the time. Work from home where it is possible , minimalise all personal contact, do not mix with other households, etc etc

Drinking bottles of wine is not something you would normally do at work as a normal civil servant or member of a government team, but lets park that particular elephant into a dark corner of the room, can you tell me what work tasks that are being undertaken in that picture, where the social distancing is taking place especially around the table on the garden and what actions are taking place that could not have been done remotely from behind a computer screen from home, as was the advice at the time ?

I know the answer to that one.

I don't want it to be about the booze, it could just as easily be cups of tea. My point is about gov't meetings, they had to go on during the pandemic. Now you or I would perhaps arrange a Zoom meeting, they can be effective. But as I said before it is important sometimes to meet face to face. Who decides what is essential, oh that's right our elected leaders and how they interpret the rules.

I was in business for many many years and had thousands of work meetings. Ive also been in many situations that look like that. I’ve never confused any of those situations with a business meeting.

Yes they’re wearing suits, whenever I’ve gone on the pi55 straight from work I’d have been in a suit too.

I think it is about the booze.. and the bloody cheese! If this was such an important meeting that it couldn't be held virtually, is it really appropriate to be drinking alcohol and having nibbles during it. Can't help to focus on the matter in hand i'd have thought!

If you're consuming alcohol you can't function as well as you can without it so you're not capable of conducting any sort of business. It just shows a massive insensitivity to what was happening to people's lives outside Johnsonland

Looks like a typical Conservative Party business meeting to me.

They tend to do their corruption at the club, under a nod and a wink understanding rather than anywhere that might be recorded and subject to the public record and scrutiny anyway.

If this was a government meeting there should be minutes available for it. I doubt there are.

Also - how many important meetings do you invite your wife and newborn to?

We don't know what the gathering/meeting was for, or the agenda. Are the comments more about 'them' and 'perception'. Do I think it was essential, I have assumed it was. If, however that is proved not to be the case, then it's another nail in the coffin.

If it's all so innocent - why won't they tell us what the meeting was about? Instead he's hiding.

He's lied about every other party - why would this be any different?

I agree that certain face to face meetings were essential and if it was tea you could argue the work angle but the wine/booze is there as is the then girlfriend of the Prime Minister, if I was required to attend an essential work meeting that required face to face attendance, even one in my own home, then neither wine nor my wife would be part of that process.

Even the government's message from Raab is 'it was a drink for staff after a gruelling day' which makes a mockery of what the majority of us were doing at the time and belies any concept of it being an essential work meeting, it looks like a few people enjoying an after work drink on a sunny day because that's exactly what it is at a time when such gatherings were clearly prohibited by the bloke with two bottles of wine on the table in front of him.

If not being able to share your grief with more than 5 others at funeral isn't allowed as an exception to the rules then I can't see how having a few drinks with at least 18 others in your garden can be defended as anything other than taking the urine.

If you honestly see the photograph as an essential work meeting then I can't really argue beyond it looks like the type thing I have attended many times, not as an essential work meeting but as a bit of jolly after work as a little thank you.
