Get Greaves and we'll be laughing

A LCB should have been signed before the season kicked off, as a matter of urgency. We may still end up signing Greaves and that's great, but what if he doesn't sign until right on deadline day? We'll be 7 games into the season and we may still be without a win.

This should have been sorted before the season kicked off.

The most frustrating part for me is we are chasing players who's clubs do not want to sell, very risky waiting for a club to suddenly accept a lower offer for a player they don't want to sell.

We've seen this before and we've ended up signing dross because we've spent too long chasing unattainable targets.

We are like the drunk bloke in the nightclub chasing the worldie when you know fine well its going to end in tears and a kebab on the way home.

Honestly don't think it's the end of the world if we have to play McNair there again. Try and bring in a left footer by all means but not to the detriment of quality. A ball playing left footed centre back is quite a niche position to fill. Can't imagine there are many realistic options of the required standard.

Yes it would provide better balance to have one, but with Giles the team is already far better balanced than last year and we know McNair is quite capable.

We could do with putting some points on the board very quickly so these potential signings think we're genuine contenders rather than just a sideways move to another Championship club (and Hull have started the season very well)

Need Greaves, but need to start using the squad and rotating Fry for Lenihan, need to adapt to games quicker using the subs too.

I get why Wilder wants a left footed left sided CB, but what I don't get is why Bola is the first pick there until we do, rather than Paddy, who played there the whole of last season.

Bola's done OK I think, but it just seems a strange deceion given he didn't feature there at all last season.

He’s good on the ball, quick and can play a bit, but not as good defensively as Fry or McNair imo. He’d probably look excellent alongside those two though

I get what you're saying, and I would agree with you. I can only assume some of the stuff they've been working on in pre season, patterns of play both defensively and in an attacking sense have been based around us having that left footed player at the side of the back three. He seems fairly committed to having that system embedded and I'm not sure he'll change it unless we have a complete collapse at the back and continue to ship goals for fun.

McNair being suspended for the opening game was a big factor, but as soon as McNair became available again he should have slotted back into the LCB role. I do wonder if Wilder has also chosen to play Bola there to send a message to the club, that he's determined to have a left-footer playing there this season.

I worry that we may have shot ourselves in the foot in our persuit of Greaves. He's a good player and will be a good signing if we get him, but what if he doesn't sign until deadline day? We'll be 7 games into the season by then and we may still have not registered a win.

I'd have preferred for us to have prioritised signing a LCB this summer, rather than bringing in Lenihan. Hull weren't playing ball when we tried to sign Greaves earlier in the window, so we should have just moved on and looked elsewhere.

I don't think he'll change it either, nor do I think he should. I think Bola is pretty good cover for the LWB and LCB positions and that probably influences CW's decisions too.

I agree that in part CW is making a point by player Bola there ahead of Paddy.

Regarding Greaves, I'm pretty sure we have the view that the player wants the move to happen, otherwise we would have moved on already.

Put Greaves in that back line and we'll be absolutely sound.
We're looking great offensively just that little bit of tightening and we'll be sound.
The boys were unlucky. I for one am not gonna get on their backs.
On to Saturday UTFB
Looking forward to Saturday 👌
