Geraint Thomas live fundraiser for NHS

Raised £150,000 on the first day. Not in the same league as Captain Moore, but who is.
Maybe a few other sports stars should follow suit , instead of kicking bog rolls round the house.

It is great what he is doing, for sure as was that chap who raised £10m it so by walking round his garden.
Tinged with sadness that we have become a nation who happily shats on people until we ‘need’ them.

Or perhaps our NHS should be properly funded, and not have to rely on charitable endeavors by celebrities or pensioners.
It really boils my pish the way Matt Hancock and other ministers stand there singing the praises of Capt Tom and everyone else trying to help the NHS as if they’re part of the effort.
They’re the fcuking reason people are having to do it anyway!!

I don't want to sound negative, this is a genuine question, where is this money for the NHS that people are raising going to? Is it a central fund to be distributed or is it to specific Trusts etc or directly to NHS staff? Trust's and their associated charities are separate entities and the money is spent on specific things like contributions to new buildings or a specific piece of equipment like a NICU cot etc.

Its a good question Mike - I was told (?) its going on food parcels, their ‘welfare’.
No idea of the validity of that but I’d like to know too.

My missus has just done a 5k to raise money - I asked her where it was going and she had no idea.

One of the reasons I ask is because I used to make the payments for a Trust's charity, a children's hospital so they did very well with donations. ASide from the major purchases like I said above then most of the other payments were for expenses for doctors to go to conferences, some of them for Consultants to stay in fancy hotels abroad and it really annoyed me that that was how they were spending donations. I do know they've clamped down on that sort of thing now at least. I do know they use a lot of the money for helping vulnerable patients travel to appointments etc as well.

It would be good if it was going to staff directly working to buy them the things they need to do their job but probably more importantly on the things they need to keep morale up.
