George friend

George is a clever guy with Business interests outside the game. He does love the club and was saying recently how much he missed the area though, so it could happen. Wouldn't be surprised if he went the media route either.

Why the obsession with trying to find jobs for ex-players?

What skills has he shown that he'd be suitable for a recruitment role given the current structure, other than he's a "clever guy", in which case we should get Stephen Fry in as well.
Players but also Managers as well. There is not a day that goes by without a thread discussing Karanka or Warnock.

Why not leadbitter cattermole are here.In all honesty it's nice that you went out your way to go into my past posts. The club needs as much help as there can get it screwed but I think the current GK coach is a good choice for the job.

It does need as much help as it can get, so it makes sense to get people suitable for the job based on their experience and success in that role, rather than simply going through a list of ex players like you seem to do.

But in all honesty I'm not running the club so your saying this to the wrong person. You do realize this is a message board with people's own opinions I wouldn't take it to seriously.

Thanks for pointing it out, I'd not realized. Perhaps posting instructions like "Bring him back to work upstairs" on here isn't the best place to put this then, perhaps send an email to Gibson?

Perhaps rather than throwing ex-players names and suggesting them for a job based on pretty much nothing, make a suggestion as to why you think they'd be suitable for the job, what you've seen to suggest they'd be good for the role etc - it may spark some debate and conversation rather than just making you look like you have an obsession with giving jobs to the Karanka era team.

You for real

I would GUESS Friend still has connections at the club, and if he seeks a career in coaching or whatever when he retires he'll certainly have doors open for him here if we are able to do so, everyone deserves their start somewhere and someone who made a real impact at the club, within the community etc deserves one more than most. He might be absolute dog toffee at whatever he tries his hand at, but i think people with a football career who have served clubs well, deserve a chance when they hang their boots up.

BBC Tees would bend over backwards for him.

Stephen fry would be perfect Kieran Scott knows him well from norwich.

your comment about being clever suggests its not really a quality we need, i tend to disagree. I would be happy to see friend he's highly intelligent loves the club and the area, he would be a perfect media spokesperson for the club, god knows we need one the PR is shocking at the club. There are some outstanding people who have been at the club real intelligent successful leaders, to dismiss them out of hand is ridiculous. Managerial candidates i would be happy with someone like jimmy floyd or Bolo zenden if we could get him and would love for the club to find a role for the likes of friend and even Watmore when their playing careers finish.

No, my comment about being clever is suggesting that can not be the sole qualification for someone to perform a recruitment role at a championship football club otherwise there's plenty of clever people out there we could offer a job to.

Friend actually has some qualifications and experience in media, and so wouldn't be too bad a shout for a role like that you've described, but running recruitment as the OP suggested - hmmmm..

Whilst I guess it's an added box ticked if potential managers have an affinity to the club, I don't see it as a deal breaker to be honest.
Aitor Karanka had zero affinity to the club when he came and he's our most successful of recent times.
George Friend was a magnificent ambassador for our club and appeared from the outside looking in to possess decent leadership skills.

I hate the parochial way we run things. It's so small time and leads to a lack of scrutiny and accountability. Sadly, nobody particularly wants to live on Teesside so our options are often limited. Attracting people that already have a link makes a bit of sense but only if they are already good at what they do. It doesn't make sense to appoint someone because they have a link and then see if they are any good at something. It's backwards thinking.
