George floyd verdict is in

The initial viral phone footage - looked terrible - but as always there oftimes appears later more nuance and context.

From the autopsy, the ingested drugs (fatal levels)- before and during, the extra body cam footage , the absent drug dealer sat next to him ( excluding past behaviour, previous arrest and drug ingesting's which was excluded ) to me said more than enough for 'reasonable doubt.

Police in the US have got to be thinking for every interaction with POC - Nope, not worth the hassle, carry on folks.

Those people pointing at Floyd's past are part of the problem. A crime is a crime and you can't use 'whataboutary' to try and justify what Chauvin did.
There's been some vile racist comments on teesside live over the last year, but apparently racism doesn't exist anymore according to johnson

This might be good. What of each points, for example 2nd degree murder, that have to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt, were not proven?

The whole world saw clear as day that a police officer caused the death of George Floyd, and that is the way the jury saw it too. It was absolutely right that he was put on trial and all the evidence considered. Justice has prevailed although it will never bring back George Floyd but can it be a starting point to change attitudes, not just from police but of racists everywhere - including those that that shouted so loud in defence of the indefensible.

Whilst this verdict is undoubtedly correct I am not convinced that this one judgement is going to change the wholesale racist agenda within the U.S. Police system. Faced with a similar situation today will former colleagues of Chauvin simply put a bullet in the head of the suspect before anyone gets a chance to pull their camera phone out.

You are probably right about racists attitudes, but what the verdict does is sends a message to police officers that they won't just get away with it.

More officers need to be brought to court, when it's appropriate to reinforce this.

On the subject of video evidence, the police must switch on their body cams unless they are having a private conversation with a collegue. There will always be video evidence of some kind or another.

The other officers still have to stand trial, I wonder if they will now plea bargain, and more importantly will the state allow that.

Two autopsies both came to the same conclusion. That George Floyds death was a homicide caused by pressure to the neck resulting in asphyxiation. That drugs in his system may have contributed to his death but were absolutely not the cause of his death.
I'm struggling to see where you find reasonable doubt?

Past behaviours and previous arrrests being excluded ignores completely that a lot of evidence on Chauvin's past behaviours were excluded too.

The judge played of a straight bat, and in some of his rulings, particularly excluding rebuttal testimony on carbon monoxide in the blood, probably slightly favoured the defence.

If the judge enforces the rules in an open and fair manner, which he did, the verdict is solely the domain of the jury. The fact that the jury were unanimous and on all counts, and very quickly so, suggests that there was barely a shred of doubt, reasonable or otherwise.

I watched every minute of the trial including the in-limene hearings and did so with an open mind, for which I got a bit of flack, having seen all the evidence, Derek Chauvin is guilty of murder in the 2nd degree. Of that there is no doubt in my mind at all.

The only element of the case the defence could argue was causation. They tried to do that with the ME evidence. It clearly was not enough.

So again, I'll ask you, what elements of any of the 3 charges was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt?

I doubt he was guilty, isn't a legal basis, btw, neither is, that it's a difficult job.

'Two autopsies both came to the same conclusion' you mean Baden ? Who based his considered 'opinion' on the video, and is a bit suspect to say the least - Google is your friend

' The fact that the jury were unanimous and on all counts, and very quickly so, suggests that there was barely a shred of doubt, reasonable or otherwise.' OR - the fact that they had effectively been doxed to the public at large ( ie the local community)- they decided to play safe ( and who could blame them),and pass it on to an appeal to sort out.

If your view is really that cynical you must believe that every major case that goes to trial has a suspect verdict returned.

I watched the case he was guilty of all charges

If I can teach myself how to use the quote function on here then anyone can. It really isn't that difficult. Give it a go.

Not every case - that would be silly.
But I would hazard a guess there are fair few behind bars right now - on death row- utterly innocent.
Be it from a variety of reasons.

I happen to think - that this cop is taking the rap for literally doing his job taking down a criminal intent on not co operating ( this in context of US and not UK).

Oh shut up. He handed a forged bill over, a misdemeanour. You are either a racist or an idiot. The minneapolis guidelines for a misdemeanour is to issue a spot fine.#

On your way
