Geordie fans

I'd like to think I'd be the same, but you only have to look on this forum to see many who will just say that you're "jealous" and they're desperate for a despot to take over our club.
Big leap from me highlighting what appears to be a bit of jealousy to wanting a despot to take over our club. I really appreciate our status.
But I don't get my knickers in a twist when big city clubs get obscene investments from dubious sources.
Giving them a bloody nose from time to time, or even matching them for prolonged periods, is even more satisfying.

They have bought well , true ......its when you buy the "next level" players on mrgabucks & get a few bad results the problems start , but everything they do is tainted sadly by a hideous group of owners & a sportswashing barbie doll

And by the way, my initial reply was in response to the OP's criticism of the Newcastle fans getting carried away. There was no mention of ownership at that point anyway.

I kept going to the Boro despite Gibbo coming out as a Tory. Sadly I suspect I'd turn a similar blind eye if we were bought by Saudis.

From a footballing point of view newcastle have been managed exceptionally well since the take over. The temptation to go out and buy the biggest names (and ego's) must have been overwhelming yet they stuck to the sensible route. They kept Eddie Howe and developed Joe Linton, Almeron ect. No silly big name signings that would have upset the dressing room and they are now reaping the rewards. Not only that but you can now only imagine they are going to progress rather than fall back.

All that said, there is no hiding the fact they are ran by a group of despicable murders. Ironically, their supporters stood outside of the ground dressed in their finest Arab attire celebrating and welcoming them to the club with open arms.

Without simply writing them off as jawdee idiot's it beggars the question, would we or any other group of supporters act differently? It is easy on the face of it to say, if the roles were reversed, we would take the high ground and make life uncomfortable for the new owners but if we were facing catapulting the club we love from a relegation contenders to genuine premiership championship status in the next 5/10 years would we stand by our morales or capitulate in the face of the temptation footballing success?

Newcastle fans have clearly turned a blind eye to the abhorent nature of their new owners but futhermore, so has the rest of the EPL. There is a distinct lack of fellow EPL clubs who have come out and said the newcastle owners are not welcome at their ground. The EPL, itself has simply rolled over and allowed them a stakehold in our game.

Despite the disgraceful murder in the most horrific fashion of a brave and decent journalist English football, at the highest level has turned a blind eye to such acts and welcomes these people into our game for no other reason than they are financially wealthy.

This is not simply a geordie bashing post but a genuine example of how much does it cost for you to relinquish your morales and principles and not only in a hypothetical way but what stance would you take when the choice is real.

As much as I would like to believe I would stand by my morales when faced with the genuine choice the geordies public have demonstrated people tend to turn a blind eye and just go along with it.

Quite a generalisation. There'll be plenty of Geordies who are uncomfortable with their owners and then there's the "we've got our Club back" brigade who aren't bright enough to care.
We would have the same, an element of our fans have been shown to be the worst of humanity. But there's plenty of decent folk too. Same with Newcastle.

What irks me slightly is the rage displayed by the majority of Geordies when their new manager was "only" Eddie Howe when they expected Mourinho or Pochetino. Some relatively intelligent Geordies I know were spouting the hashtag #howefornow, which was all over Twitter at the time. Now they're worried about losing him to England when Southgate inevitable fails at this World Cup because some of them genuinely belive they'll win the league with him in charge.

I can understand not suddenly abandoning your team when certain owners take over. I can’t really understand the tea towels on the heads etc though.

They have a very good chance of being in the top 4 at the end of the season - no European distractions like the other teams. I would be very surprised if they didn't have a decent cup run as well.

Howe and potter are the two stand out candidates for england both far better managers than southgate

I hate to say it but they are doing very well.

Looking at the starting lineup on Sunday there's arguably only 2-3 players who you would say are genuinely top 4 quality. With Isak and ASM back it's difficult to see their performances deteriorating.

Full credit to Howe for this - I was previously sceptical but his record speaks for itself really.

They’re all coming back out of the woodwork again now, a lad at work who hasn’t mentioned football for a good few years is now top fan again…. Even said Almiron is a better striker than Haaland 😂

Haha, so pleased I don't live there anymore!

Don't know where to start with that comment - presumably Trippier is a better GK than De Gea as well? Still as clueless as ever I see :)

They are playing well but I'd say they're massively overachieving with the squad they've got, they're still a long way off a top 4 team and will need much more squad depth to sustain this run imo

Playing devils advocate here but I’m beginning to think it’s a good thing that we have one top team in the premier from the NE. Yes, it is a bit stomach churning that they suddenly have incredibly wealthy owners, associated with a medieval brutal regime, but it is what it is.

We would probably do the same as far as lauding it would we not? I am also pleased they are rubbing it into the Mackems noses. Their vile paedo chants disgust me and anything to wind them up gives me pleasure.

I also like to see different teams challenge the so called elite, top teams of the premier league. It is boring to see the same clubs monotonising the top 4 every year.

I never thought I would feel this way but jealousy is an insidious thing. I love the rivalry in football and will always be Boro through and through. Let the Geordies enjoy their day. Football is a funny old game and who knows what the future holds for any team?

No it’s an awful thing as they will suck the talent from us all in this region. There is no trickledown up side to their Saudi billions none.

Yes. Of course it's a generalisation but I am not seeing many empty seats at st james park since the take over. I bet a pound to a penny the demand for tickets and merchanidise is higher now than it was under ashley. The interest in newcastle from their fans and the media is as high as its ever been since the keegan era. The willingness to turn a blind eye to the very worst kind of behaviours has never been more evident.

Would we be any different as a collective fan base? I don't know. I would hope we would be. I certainly would not hand over my hard earned money to a murderous regime. The fact that so many would or even consider it is a damning reflection on the moral compass of the masses within our society.

The Nazi's 1936 olympic games
Argentina 1978 world cup
Abramovic buy out of Chelsea 2003
Saudi buy out of Newcastle 2021
Qatar 2022 world cup

This is not a list any decent person would want to be on.

I have no doubt whatsoever that we'd be selling out every week if we were in the same situation as Newcastle are now.

But I do think thousands of the long term fans would be lost and replaced with people jumping on the bandwagon.

I'm sure Newcastle have lost fans too.

I thought they would buy superstars, Howe would be out of his depth and they would change him for a 'premium' name. Then fall flat on their ar$es.
Unfortunately they have bought well and Howe is a better manager than I realised.
Disappointing isn’t it. Tripper was a good signing.. and after all the managers turning their noses up at the job (apparently) Eddie Howe seems like the perfect fit.
