What's happening? What's the bigger picture? Why is it easier to get an estate agent round your house to help you sell it than it is to get a face to face appointment with a GP? Rules from above? Fear? Are they all now comfortable with the current diagnosis by photo thus lessening the workload? Are we seeing a shift into a.i diagnosis?

Theyve been put in charge of their own funding.
So human nature, ie greed has popped its head in.
How can i do the least possible, pay the least possible to my minnions ( staff ) so i get the most in my pocket.

Is that true? I assumed they were funded by the NHS?

Put simply, GPs get paid through a bunch of different funding models for different things.

Without hearing from this particular GP it's very difficult to work out what went wrong and where, but it's highly unlikely that a GP thought saving a few bob would be worth the potential reputational and professional damage.

Without going into too much detail I have a condition which at times can be quite debilitating and requires prescription only medication.

Anyway the other day I had a telephone appointment with my GP to review my medication as I didn't think it was quite doing the trick.

I asked for stronger medication, twice as strong actually, and the answer came back yes it will be ready for you when you need it. No other questions asked.

I thought I'd need to go in face to face as it were, to discuss my situation or to consider non-drug related treatment but no. Just crack on with this stronger dose.

I don't know if you are aware but you should also be able to discuss your medication with your pharmacist when you collect it.

I've had no trouble getting in to see my GP or dentist.

With the GP it was a phone consult & then in to see a Dr a couple of days later. Seen faster than trying to get an appointment previously.
Dentist just went in for my regular check up.

Getting into the care home to see my mother is a completely different ball game though. Limited appointments, two negative LFTs, masks, no touching.

I think the problem is the guidelines are not proscriptive enough and different organisations are interpreting them to suit themselves rather than trying to 'return to normal' but in a safe fashion.

Try getting a dentist appointment 🙄
Well worth going private, found that out the hard way after waiting 3 months for a nhs appt then having it cancelled the day before. Beyond useless
Booked in and sorted in a week with a private one

My Mrs has Denplan, we use the same dentist, she was called in for a check up months ago, I’m still waiting, I think you’re right.

Im also supposed to see a consultant at James Cook for something else every six months, heard nowt for nearly two years 🙄

My GP has been incredibly helpful whenever required including during the last 18 months of madness

dentist on the other hand…yeah, no chance

I had a mole that had become raised and red and was itching like crazy. it took me 30 mins of auto redial to get through for the Witch on the front desk to tell me a Dr would phone me back before she slammed the phone down... 5 hrs later I got a call and they were completely disinterested and asked me to send a photo.... its on the back of my neck.

I explained again where it was and that i would be unable to take the pic.... thus I really want to have it looked at correctly. He told me it was impossible as they were not seeing people face to face.

As soon as I asked to speak to the Practice Manager he changed his tune and i was seen within the hour.

Do not take the BS they give you... stand up for what you are entitled to.

There will be so many health concerns which go unaddressed amongst working age people when this is the system we have. As hard as it is to get an appointment, there are always that hardcore who manage to get one for a snapped eyebrow hair, or strained little finger. We all know some people like this, who love the sense of drama which comes from an NHS interaction.

My friend qualified as a doctor a few years ago (not in England, so possibly not a nationally applicable scenario) and has seriously considered doing some time as a GP because in some areas they can more or less match his salary with a big reduction in working hours. A three day week would give him time to study for further qualifications... but will then take him away from general practice when he's applying for different roles.

Anyone had any experience of private health care? Thinking it might be the way forward if this continues
