Gemma Lee has been handed a hefty tax bill for her "miracle" lifesaving drugs, because of changes to how VAT is charged post Brexit.

Sunak and his wife will be ok though.

Every day you read something that just wants to make you scream at the clowns running our country.

I hate that term every time I read Smalltown has posted it but you are certainly right with this one.
At least you admit to playing the man and not the ball, others aren't so honest!

But yes, Brexit is the gift that keeps on giving isn't it?

Still, sovereignty.

I played the term and not the man but let's make this about you and not the article.
You did that mate. You brought me in to it. That's what I don't get about people who just want to insult me. Why mention me on a thread then get upset because I'm mentioned on a thread? Surely you can be better than that?

Anyway: Back to the story. It's disgusting. What will it take for the cult of brexit to admit it might not be going how they want?

I'm not well today and do not want to play your silly games but for once I am going to bite. I never insulted you but I am now you insignificant little pr*ck. All I did was mention that I didn't like the term you regularly post and once again it is the 'I've been insulted claim.' Do you have that on speed dial so you don't have to type it out every other post?

You need to grow up, realise you are in long trousers and start acting that way.
AH no, I wasn't having a pop at you per se, and I know you're not well and how tough Covid is.

It's just something I don't get. I understood it on previous, less respectful boards were people would drag me into a thread then complain about me commenting on the thread. I just don't get it here. I thought we were above such behaviour.

It seems strange to me that you would specifically call me out in a thread then immediately complain the thread was being made about me. I can't really get the logic there.

Back to the subject in hand and this is quite appalling for the Lee family.
Agreed. I imagine issues like this are happening up and down the country too. Brexit is a death by a thousand cuts isn't it? I hope we, as a country, can wake up to the disaster and start addressing the issues. It saddens and angers me that people will still defend this version of brexit, even after stories like this.

The EG comments section once again shows why we live in an uncaring society.
Let's hope that the Lee families struggle leads to a brighter future for those who'd benefit from early administration of this drug, especially children.

My understanding is although she now pays vat on euro imports, the price is adjusted at the other end. If she has paid a tax in another country it should be refunded. If she hasn’t, the price has already been adjusted. It’s not a 1:1 cost and there are minor fees for clearance etc but you don’t pay both and you always paid it at one end

working example: I buy perfume from France, used to just pay the ttc tax. Now pay ttc at purchase and vat on entry to uk plus customs fee. Firm then refunds me the ttc paid, im worse off but not as bad as it’s made out to be. Other suppliers do paperwork to show you already paid the tax.

I suspect this is a case of them seeing the price and not realising they weren’t charging the local tax
