GB NEWS

We don't know what it will be like yet so can't yet form an opinion before they've even aired a programme.

It's not in HD on Freeview so will be "fuzzy" TV bit like BBC local news is at the moment.
I hate watching in non HD format now, so think that might put a lot of people off regardless of the content.

Who in the right mind would sit down and watch a news channel for entertainment/enjoyment?

Watching the news is depressing. 99% of it is bad news and specifically tailored to keep you hooked and wasting your time as they repeat the same stuff over and over again.

Shouldn't be allowed to be categorised as a news channel.

It will be more like an entertainment, loose women for middle aged angry blokes type channel.

I try and watch all the news with an open mind. I welcome a different view.

Me too, I like to form my own opinion. We all have ingrained beliefs and biases to various degrees of ridiculousness, but there are actually people around who promote fairness, inclusiveness and support the freedom of speech to the hilt, yet deny those with differing views their lawful right to exercise it at times and refuse to accept an alternate view just might have some credence. Too many people get entrenched, life is never black or white, you have to roll with the dice dealt, otherwise you stay swimming in the shallows.

By all means don’t watch it, but i think to have a fair understanding of modern Britain you need to process all the data available to form an open, fair and reasoned opinion rather than just listen to a closed shop of what you want or like to be told.

A.N. may be a Tory, but he does not show favour imho, he will happily criticise a Tory and pull them up, he tries to make politicians work for their view whatever their brand. I look forward to tuning in and will make my own mind up based on what i see and hear

Did/do you watch Fox News or even CNN come to think of it. At different ends of the spectrum and quite nauseating. Give me BBC, Sky, ITV and Channel 4 any day of the week. GB News will just replicate Fox News I'm sure of it.

And how exactly will Ofcom let this pass?

Sorry Col, but you seem incredibly naive in this instance, if you think GB News is being set up as a platform to deliver ‘open, fair and reasoned opinion.’

It will no doubt appeal to the audience it is being created for, and get those people frothing with anger at leftie do-gooders, generation snowflake, BLM/Climate change activists etc and the injustice of not being able to go around spouting a bit of casual homophobic/racist/intolerant abuse in the name of harmless banter anymore.

If you think it’s just a harmless alternative source of news, you’ve not been paying attention OR you are it’s target audience.

Ah, I thought it had already started going by comments on here. News telly is all about ratings now anyways, and yes that includes the BBC.

You do realise that you don’t have to have seen it to know what it’s all about, who it’s target market is and why it’s being created?
You can research this stuff …. all the information is out there…..

Probably created to make money. Much like all the rest.

Yep.

Much like lots of the click bait ‘alternative news’ sites and the Facebook/twitter spread covid conspiracy tosh and guff that seems to get spread around all too easily.

Neil says GB News will shake up the traditional broadcasting media establishment by targeting the “vast number of British people who feel under served and unheard by their media”.

GB News will be “the most exciting thing to happen in British television news for more than 20 years”, Neil has claimed, as a channel offering “robust, balanced debate” that provides “a range of perspectives on the issues that affect everyone in the UK, not just those living in the London area”.

I appreciate we need to see what happens, the proof of the pudding etc, but If he manages that, surely thats a good thing.

That could mean "Fox news" or "C4 news" so who knows, except it's marketing hype.

Very interesting timing of the “launch”. Things could get pretty serious from now and toward the end of the year.
Bringing up re-enforcements. If you have a cat keep an eye on it, they’re gonna need a battalions worth of dead’uns 😉

Let’s see mate. Yes. Lived abroad for 16 years so, for some if that time I had no option but to watch Al Jazeera, fox cnn and BBC. I used to love he impartiality if our news service. But could you really say that about the BBC, c4 or sky these days?
