The reactionary fascist front organisation the Tax Payer's Alliance and Redcar's Tory scum MP Jacob Young have cooked up a story that R&C Council spent an outrageous £1347 on tea and biscuits last year.

Two minutes with a spreadsheet tells me I spent about £150 for tea and coffee on just myself in the last year. Just tea bags and Morrisons own coffee. No Starbucks or Costa expensive sh!te.

Yet the Gazette gives it space. The Gazette was once a newspaper. Now just more neoliberal toilet paper.

It is deflection. It works out at about 40p per week per councillor and that is not including guests and visitors. Jacob Young knows this is a none story which is which his comments are so wishy washy and vague.

£210k!!!!!!!

I thought that was wind up but it looks real that's over £4,000 per week to run a small flat for 1 person in London and 20? trips to London.

Surely £30k is enough where is the other £180k spent?

I think it's good that they run these articles. At least it's clear now that they're politically partisan rather than interested in the best thing for the area.

Most MPs have these costs and I am ok with it ; they run a constituency office with computers, staff, stationery as well as travel to london. If your np is doing their job it's money well spent as they are the ones dealing with our queries so it comes down to if the mp is value for money for those expenses

OK - I did not realise he had to employ people and run an office - still £57k for his accomodation in London and travel to London is significant. (210k-153k)

I’m ok with it too as long as there’s transparency about who they pay as staff and for what…

we need to avoid sensationalising non stories as discussed in the OP… Which ever side your political allegiance falls on…

I doubt he can do the maths

on this thread we’ve probably moved away from the main point of the TPA’s anti-society focus and how local papers and poor local journalists - including Stuart Arnold here - are either lazy or complicit or both in their actions.

Divide and rule , its how the tories stay in power, the new bogeyman is civil servants and those "too lazy to cook"
