Gary Neville's suggestion to make football better

4pts for a win, an extra bonus point if you score 4 goals
2pts for a draw
1pt if you get beat by one goal
Bonus point for taking the knee

I think it would make the game worse, you would have crap teams red star belgrading it against good sides, and bricking up the goal, and trying to get wins on penalties.

Teams would be sat so deep that the good sides would even struggle to break through, would be boring to watch imo.

My ideas:
- stop the clock when the ball goes out, or is in possession of the keeper, and show the clock in the stadium.
- let players receive treatment on the pitch whilst the game is going on, or if they want to go off, let them off, and let them come back on when they want, but do not stop the game.
- let teams have say 1 var review per half, anywhere on the pitch, if they're wrong, they lose the review, if they're right, they keep it
- To be offside there has to be clear daylight between strikers and defenders, and if a decision is close, to the point where lines are being drawn on var, sack the lines off and favour the attacker
- sack off the "not interfering with play" for offsides, if you're not interfering then don't stand offside, stand somewhere else onside.
- Only the captain can talk to the ref, anyone else does or gets in the refs face then yellow card, next time sent off, just deal with dissent like any other sport manages to easily.
- Retrospective red cards for obvious diving/ cheating
1 makes sense and I've been advocating for that for years.
2 is unnecessary if we have the 1st one because they are only down if they are genuinely injured.
3 makes things worse. VAR should be consistent and should correct things that should be corrected. Challenges would be something else teams would use to game the system.
4 makes no sense. You will still get marginal decisions, you are just drawing the line in a different place. Would also force teams to sit much deeper making negative football worse
5 is a step backwards. You'd just have more disallowed goals for nothing offences
6 yep, sensible
7 yep, sensible but harshest possible punishments to correct behaviour please

If you score 3 or more goals you get and extra point. If you lose the game 4-3 you still get a point.

2- I think it still makes sense, as keeps the game flowing better, or as it should, works well in Rugby etc, which is a much more dangerous game too, and it's just as quick.
Stops players playing with injury and stops players faking injury to gain time (without 1) or stop the clock to have a breather/ sort tactics etc, so what we're doing now is the worst of both worlds.
Player honesty should fix that, but we can't trust players to be honest, as evidenced since I've ever watched footy.
4 - Yeah, I see what you're saying as I suppose offsides are more retrospective now anyway, as they just play on. But what I mean is just allowing daylight with players torso etc, so it's less ambiguous with feet and hands or whatever. It just needs to be made quicker, and more favouring the attackers.
Too many times attackers are trying to stay on line and end up 5mm over, it's daft.
5 - it's not right that someone can be stood offside (but not interfering) when they're anywhere near the goal, as defender or keeper might not be able to see, or see along the line etc. Or they might adjust their position for where the "non interfering" guy is stood. It's just unnecessary, just have everything offside as the ball is kicked forward, as offside. Might speed the game up having strikers rush to get back onside again, but it would 100% cut out that daft thing where an attacker is stood well ahead of the defensive line as he knows it's not coming anywhere near him.
I want to favour attackers more with offside decisions, but not this way as it's bending the rules.
7 - yeah it needs to be really harsh, just do get it cut out of the game. It would all be stopped by the second week. Daft crap like players holding their knee when they've not been fouled or fouled on the shin pad or whatever. Or like when rivaldo went down holding his face after his got hit by a ball in the leg, it's just so soft.

Anyone who had to endure watching teams (particularly Arsenal) playing the offside trap in the 1970s and 80s would NEVER advocate for going back to that turgid nonsense.

Teams could still do that now if they wanted, but they don't risk it/ do it to the same extent as it no longer works, and wouldn't work with the changes I said above either (described a post earlier). Players would start their runs being well onside and up to speed just as the ball is kicked, and if the defence run away from goal they're never going to get back in time.

Having the offside line needing daylight would make it even less of a reason to play the offside trap, as there's a larger penalty if they get it wrong.

I’ve just finished Mr McMahon on Netflix.

Anyone who watched it will know of his failed XFL franchise which aimed at tapping into American Football fans during the off season.

So, hear me out…off season Premier league wrestling…

Scrap VAR
Get rid of these short goal kicks the ball has to leave box
No more short corners ball has to move at least 10 yards
A bonus point for 2 goals scored

1. PL1 & PL2 - with the other leagues open to B teams.
2. Adopt the Bundesliga's 50 + 1 Rule
3. Introduce a stop clock and reduce the game to 80 minutes
4. No headers
5. Kick ins rather than throw ins
6. Scrap the offside rule
7. If a shot hits the crossbar or the post and goes out.. give the attacking team a corner
8. 10 yard push back for dissent
9. Ban gambling sponsors
10. Mic up the refs.. introduce Rugby Refs!
11. Make black boots compulsory for non goal scorers.

Often thought to cut out time wasting with injuries, do what rugby union do and treat them on the pitch as the game continues to play?.
free kicks and throwings you get a certain amount of time to take them before it's reversed to the opposition.

Yeah maybe. What about when you have a one off good season, lose a couple of players, then are faced with a low points per win....certain relegation battle
My initial suggestion of variable points for a win was slightly tongue in cheek based on the assumption that the reason for change was about shaking things up instead of having the same teams winning all the time.

I realise that, im not taking it as a serious consideration....
