Gary Neville's suggestion to make football better

Terrible idea, what’s wrong with a draw. Why not go back to two points for a win, then there’s less jeopardy in losing a game….might also make the league more competitive?
Why not introduce a handicap system where last season's champions get 2.3 points for a win, newly promoted teams get 3.2 points for a win and a sliding scale in between depending on last season's league position?

Why don’t they create a new sports entertainment circus type game with all these ludicrous gimmicks in it and go fck off and play that and make shed loads of money from the US / far east and let the rest of us have real football back. I’m sure they could get the tv execs / moneymen and advertisers behind it if they wanted.

Only goalkeepers allowed to take goal kicks. Sick of watching defenders take a goal kick just to pass it to the keeper.

I hate all the above suggestions, whether they’re real or tongue in cheek (which some money obsessed arrishole in FIFA who knows f all about footy but knows about making £ will pick up on and force onto the game - and that is the danger).

If they are wanting to make it more entertaining they might aswell do it properly and cage the pitch in and put lions in during the game.

Fckin leave the game alone!!

In fairness it was intended to be a bit of fun, even on the podcast.

Have a nice cup of tea mate ;)

League games that end in a draw:

Penalty shoot-out which gives the winning team 2 points instead of 1.

Would discourage draws but also ensure an exciting finish.

Thoughts?
I think it would make the game worse, you would have crap teams red star belgrading it against good sides, and bricking up the goal, and trying to get wins on penalties.

Teams would be sat so deep that the good sides would even struggle to break through, would be boring to watch imo.

My ideas:
- stop the clock when the ball goes out, or is in possession of the keeper, and show the clock in the stadium.
- let players receive treatment on the pitch whilst the game is going on, or if they want to go off, let them off, and let them come back on when they want, but do not stop the game.
- let teams have say 1 var review per half, anywhere on the pitch, if they're wrong, they lose the review, if they're right, they keep it
- To be offside there has to be clear daylight between strikers and defenders, and if a decision is close, to the point where lines are being drawn on var, sack the lines off and favour the attacker
- sack off the "not interfering with play" for offsides, if you're not interfering then don't stand offside, stand somewhere else onside.
- Only the captain can talk to the ref, anyone else does or gets in the refs face then yellow card, next time sent off, just deal with dissent like any other sport manages to easily.
- Retrospective red cards for obvious diving/ cheating

It's a no from me.

We're not like the Americans, we can handle a draw.
and also why should a team like Ipswich who battle back to take a point from Champions League Villa lose the point after gaining it!!

It has the potential to make football even more boring. If I where a small club I wouldn't pick a striker in a game and defend with 10 men v the top sides knowing I'd win penalty shoot outs.
