What is the point of this as then to me it’s just setting them up to fail, how can you expect the likes of Bowen Watkins etc to do anything when they are paired with other novices non regulars.

Sure it’s better to blend them than hang them out to dry like this when they ALL know this a B side and they are very much the also rans.

Prob what 2 poss 3 senior players starts last night

So maguire and Phillips start v Italy yhen

Because if your in the rejects team last night you know how your regarded.

They're not a waste of time at all and football isn't an exact science. They're away in a squad situation and given a run out to see how they cope away from their normal set up. Perform really well and you're a step closer, perform poorly and maybe drop out next time.
But what chance do they have when they are not given a fair chance.

On the other hand, it was good to see both Maddison and Grealish on the pitch together, for I think the first time. I remember in the 70s when you had Bowles, Marsh, Tony Currie, Alan Hudson, Worthington, but none of them ever seemed to get a run in the side. It was your Brookings, Channons, Wilkins, Balls - safe players. Showmen weren't trusted.

I guess it proved the drop off from the current first team to the second string. For me the keeper, dunk, Maddison and Watkins showed enough but the others no

England had to play a friendly, so might aswell play some untried players. It’s fine playing then as long as they aren’t just written off from one pointless game.

“UEFA regulations stipulate that nations in odd-numbered qualifying groups must fulfil blank dates in the calendar when group rivals are playing.”

But that’s my point they will be though as they were set up to fail. To bundle them all together proves that.

Really got it in for the bloke haven't you. Baffling. Got us to our first final since 66. Transformed the fortunes of our national team. Cut his teeth as a manager at our club and was a superb player for us. Captained is to our only major trophy. Rarely fails to act in a dignified and thoughtful manner. Yet you seem to despise him. Picking faults with anything and everything he does.

25 players are in the squad of which 17 saw action.

Give or take a minute or so, 5 of them got the full 90, 2 got 70, 4 got an hour,
4 got 30 and 2 got 20.

The remaining 8 were rested for the most important of the 2 matches on Tuesday.

There is NO “reject side” and they don’t have a “target in their back”!

If you’re in the reject side last night you know you aren’t in his immediate plans. It’s like paint a target in their back.

Barring Henderson
I dunno. To me it basically says you’re “on the plane” to Germany even though you didn’t play in Qatar. I don’t think it’s quite the condemnation you seem to think it is? Would it have been better if he put them all on the bench?

But surely you learn more mixing abilities though. Putting out a reject squad doesn’t help morale either.

It’s not a reject squad, it’s a squad of players who are mostly very much good enough but who aren’t as established as Harry Kane and Jordan Pickford.
