Gareth Bale

I admire his stubbornness in some ways, but nobody will seriously consider even half his wages in two years because he'll have gone so long without a run of games and there'll be younger and cheaper options out there.

A shame not to see his talent given a stage.

After how zidane ***ed him about with the move last year demanding a fee last minute after everything was arranged he has told his agent he is not willing to take any pay cut and will train and pick up his €500k a week for the next 23 months of his contract, that’s €50 million!

Could have come back to English Football and been a hero to his new Club’s fans if he wanted. He would rather sit it out, retire on his dosh and play golf. Stuff him. Will look back in ten years time and realise he should have won more medals.

It epitomises the state of modern football. A player is being paid so much that he’d rather not do his actual job at all than move, a club who pay their (good, but not best) players so much that no one else can possibly match it. They deserve each other.
Except that he's been trying to move and getting blocked from doing so. For instance, in July last year he already had a deal agreed, only for Real Madrid to prevent him from leaving.

According to an article in the Independent, dated July 28, 2019:
Gareth Bale’s lucrative move to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning has fallen through after the Real Madrid board made a last-ditch decision to block the deal.

I don't know about that. 3 champions League winners medals is hardly shabby. I think he'll be able to live with it.

As said above, the whole case epitomises the excesses of modern football. Such a waste of a talent but it comes from clubs like Madrid blowing other clubs out the water on wages. His isn't the only talent being wasted by being paid excessively for not playing, but it's the most extreme example.

He's 31, it's a short career. I don't blame him for taking the money as long as he's professional, keeps fit and makes himself available to play. If he's refused to play then yeah, utter nob.

I thought he’s been wanting to play all season.
Zidane has hardly picked him?
Not sure what Bale can do about that and, equally not sure, we ought to believe Zidane’s recent musings

Come on. He was trying to semi-retire to China Because he isn’t willing to work for a penny less than what he’s on now.

Also, not sure why he should expect a free transfer with 3 years left on his deal.

If he wants to get picked, his attitude needs to change significantly. All the provocative behaviour towards Zizou isn’t helping at all.

Or if he was willing to work for something measly like *quarter of a million pounds a week* he’d be at Man Utd or Bayern Munich now. A bit worse off but actually making something of the last few years of his career.

The reality is a little bit different, he has featured twice since lockdown and was told he wouldn’t feature against Manchester City given that he asked, due to Manchester being in local lockdown, to be excused from travelling as he wasn’t going to be part of the match day squad.

What ‘provocatrive’ attitude
He has been picked around 7 times, I think
Just feels like - Zidane speaks and people go ‘ahh right, that’s the case’
People are picking a ‘side’ in this dispute - ‘twas ever thus’
I think we all know enough about the world - that the truth is hard to get to and both Zidane and Bale will have an agenda.

It’s a bizarre situation. They seem to want him to stay on his huge wages and hardly play him and if there is ever a sniff of him leaving it doesn’t happen and he continues to be on the bench. No wonder he is getting sick, he is probably thinking I will happily take these wages but he won’t understand why they won’t let him leave. Bet he has fell out of love with the game, shame really Cos a huge talent and in full flow and in form one of the best around. Sadly feel like them days are gone now

Because his manager at the time said he doesn't want him in the squad and he has no future there?

HOUSTON, Texas (AP) — Coach Zinedine Zidane says that Real Madrid wants to part ways with Gareth Bale, six years after it broke a world transfer record to sign the Wales winger.

Zidane said on Saturday following a friendly in Houston, Texas, that he expects Madrid to conclude a transfer for Bale to another club "in the coming days."

"We'll have to see if it goes through tomorrow, if it does then all the better," Zidane said. "Let's hope, for everyone's sake, that it happens soon. The club is dealing with the club that he'll move to."

Zidane made the comments after Bale did not play in the 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich in a preseason game.

Madrid is looking to overhaul its squad after one of its most disappointing seasons in recent memory when it was out of contention for any major title months before the end of the campaign.

"It's nothing personal. There comes a time when things are done because they need to be done," Zidane said. "The situation will change and it's for the best for everyone."
