Fujifilm - More good news for Teesside (Billingham)

Ref Cost of Living

I guess people Nationally look at average house prices of £200k? on Teesside (see 4 bed house excellent condition below) against an UK average of £300k and judge it a cheap area to live in - the price of a pint seems cheaper to me and haircuts, taxis, fish and chips, Boyes Stores seem to be able to sell some items cheaper than many other places, other stuff is the same price as most other places in the UK, although public transport is more expensive than many Metropolitan cities and people in the NE probably have to spend more on heating than those in the South.

Pleasing for people looking for work in the the area if it all goes to plan. More jobs than jobs lost seem to be coming to the area, which is quite a contrast from the last 40 years.

Always sad to lose a football club with a bit of local heritage too, as per South Bank AFC (formed in 1868).

Anyone local to the area can see the transformation. The site happens to be on my running route and has changed beyond recognition the last few months.
Surprised you haven't been killed to be honest mate, I work down Belasis and see near misses due to all the parked vehicles and people pulling out pretty much every day.

I suppose the prospective loss of 240 jobs around the corner means it'll pretty much be stars quo for Billingham though.

'More jobs than jobs lost' isn't the case though. Even according to our revered Mayor, from a podcast he did around a year ago, we have had a net loss of 16,500 jobs in the area he represents and that's since he became Mayor.

It's relatively easy to check, but employment is largely unchanged from when Houchen came in across the TV area.

The airport will close eventually as it's just not viable.

Very sad news for the 90 year old Cassel works plant. My Dad was a process operator there for over 20 years.
In an ideal world it would be great if we could keep all the old plants open.

Other threads talk about not investing in Dirty Coal mines, at least this is new investment in clean technology and should still be welcome.
