Fujifilm - More good news for Teesside (Billingham)

It's gossip, the type you soak up all of the time
It’s hardly gossip… FUJI have confirmed everything we know so far with they’re own press release

I’m seriously starting to think your a troll

Still no detail with regards to how much is being invested in Billingham. No detail on how many jobs are being created.

I don't really care what you think. I've read your board contributions.

It must be very depressing for you living in that negative little insular world of yours CtC

come out for a while.. I’ll even treat you to a pint if you like

The official press release (similar to the EG) states:

In the United Kingdom gene therapy production will be increased ten-fold, cell culture capacity will be tripled and microbial fermentation output at the existing 5,000L scale facility will be doubled. The United Kingdom cell culture expansion will also include cGMP capacity for continuous manufacturing. Process and analytical development capacity will also be strategically added as part of this investment package.

You would not get this for ÂŁ4million. I have worked at Fujifilm as a contractor/staff engineer.

Believe me this is 100's of million investment.

Sorry but no matter how much you want it not to be true, it does look like a major investment.

It could be a major lie by Fujifilm themselves, I do not have evidence to support their press release so apologies in advance for not investigating any further.

I think you're probably right. Saw the erm.. eloquent contribution on the Rumsfeld thread.

It's a ÂŁ60 million expansion project that they are currently working on which is set to go live in about 9 months which of course is good news in the short term for construction jobs etc but I'm led to believe will not require much, if any, expansion in the work force longer term, the real beneficiary of the investment is Fujifilm themselves.

It may lead to further expansion and is obviously good news, I think the point being made is that in these cases what's the narrative behind exaggerating the positive rather than reporting the reality, a ÂŁ60m expansion is a lily that requires no gild.

What does this paragraph mean? Particularly the “outsourcing process development”.

arket growth for CDMO services, including outsourcing process development, analytical development, bulk drug substance manufacturing, fill/finish and finished goods (packaging) production, is expected to continue due to increasing demand for biotherapeutics such as antibodies, gene therapy treatments and vaccines against new infectious diseases such as COVID-19.

Once you have developed a drug, and set up a manufacturing facility to make it you still need to develop the process used to make it. This is to make sure what you do is exactly repeatable and you can demonstrate to any auditors that you are making the drug consistently and correctly. It sounds simple but it’s actually quite a big job to get it all worked out, tested, documented and approved so it is a whole step that you can outsource to someone.

Let's accept the narrative that it's only ÂŁ4m, and that it's no news.

Which party will have gained votes by this no news?

Maybe we would be happier with the investment going to Slough.

Some are having a very bad day on here today , this investment, Nissan, losing Batley (v Likely) ..........maybe they are the out of step ones with the country?

No, no they aren’t. The government used our money to bribe Nissan and had the news released today in order to win a by-election. That failed.

the Fujiflm thing is good news, for them but has nothing to do with politics and certainly through no help of the tories. “Company expands facility” is the only story here

Now we know the details - It was ÂŁ400m not ÂŁ4m.
I've put a link to the Northern Echo and others (Just in case some posters still didn't like the Gazzette)

Thanks for bringing this back up Billyboystu.

I got some unnecessary negative replies when I first created this thread.

Hopefully the 'doom and gloom' gang can see that this was a positive news story now.

Should be OK, the 'doom and gloom' gang are busy on the "Is anyone else just" thread.
