Fujifilm - More good news for Teesside (Billingham)

I dunno what I am missing from that article but I see no mention of £4 million investment in Billingham... the balloon figure for the company is £600 million and they haven't provided a breakdown per plant.

Reading the statement from FUJI they clearly state how they will spend the money... doubling production.... doesn't sound like a bit of replacement kit to me... that's major capital investment.
Why is £600m the headline figure in the local rag, when £4m is being invested?

Why the need for further research into what is really being spent in the area, surely a newspaper should provide that, unless it has a reason not to?

Why the need for further research? well last time I checked we didn't have a 100% proof vaccine so its clearly needed... not to mention further research into new strains and other viruses in the future.

Anyway just like everything else in this world... we all have our own opinion... Mine is that this is good news and positive not only for FUJI in Billingham but also the supply chain around it.

Having lived in Billingham for most of my childhood to early 30's its fantastic to see something be developed on the site of the old offices... the new building looks amazing and is fantastic step forward for the area around it that was blighted for so many years.

I'm pretty sure he meant the £600 Million lie was deceiving people.
As far as i can see and read, the £600 million isn’t a lie. The article does not state or imply it was all for Billingham. If there is any deception it is the political spin. The good news is the investment from Fujifilm, the fact that a politician is spinning shouldn’t be a surprise, every politician of any coloured rosette does that too. The real good news story is the investment in Billingham by Fujifilm, surely people welcome that, but some appear to not want to.

Criticism is criticism, it is fine if it is accompanied by a solution, but if it isn’t, well that tells its own story.

By all means if you think Fujifilm are deceiving the people of Billingham by investing £4M into its local business, then I would love to hear why. I think It clearly helps protect the jobs that are there already. The investment will create work in construction, increased staffing and will have some knock on effect by some increased spending locally. How is their investment deceiving the local residents and the companies workers exactly, or is it the Mayor you are really referring to? If so I think i covered that point at #24

Do you welcome Fujifilms investment or would you rather they spent their........
Wow!!!

Talk about completely missing the point.

And another!!!

If you think £4m is major investment in the pharma sector you should do a little more research.

BBC tees stated they were making a £4M investment, maybe thats just constructing the plant itself, i dunno, maybe more will follow maybe it wont, it is still good news for Billingham whatever spin anyone chooses to put on it.

Or perhaps you are missing mine, that it is merely good news for Billingham.

I accept the political spin issue, particularly on the day of a by-election and all that, All parties do it when and wherever they can, thats life. However, the real story is still Fujifilm investing in its Billingham plant, local jobs etc

Suspect the fact it's going to be on Teesside has a bit to do with the Fuifilm CEO being from Marske

Or it’s absolutely no news at all, which is precisely the point being made.
I don’t think Alex Cunningham the areas Labour MP sees it that way, he certainly thought it was good news and welcomed Fujifilms continued investment and expansion plans back in 2019. I don’t think those that are to eventually be employed on the back of it will see it as no news either, nor will the local shops and businesses that see employees spending money in will too.

The plant has been in Billingham for years now and over the last couple of years a new building has been built for labs and offices.

I'm assuming, though maybe I shouldn't, that the £4m is new spending. Having worked in that sector I know what you get for that sort of money, it's not a lot.

The last pharma project I was involved with we bought a small piece of kit from China for £1m. The hardware in the pharma sector is very expensive but the product price makes it a very profitable industry to be in. The workforce doesn't need to be large to maintain it.

Your point being?

🤦‍♂️

I have a relative who works at Fuji and they think it's an upgrade of manufacturing equipment that will increase production over a phased installation, as new machines kick in the old ones will be phased out, and improve plant efficiency, so whilst investment is good news the benefits are far more toward Fujifilm with small potential fringe benefits along the supply chain to the area.

Bizarrely, sometimes investment can lead to more automation or specialisation which means fewer jobs or a reduction in secondary benefits. we have to keep an open mind, look at each case individually and judge accordingly.

Right Now I understand

I actually think some people are getting the investments mixed up... the only reference I can find to the £4 million is what has been invested by the TVCA.... Not FUJI

"which Houchen has backed with nearly £4million in funding."

If that is the case then it means the amount fujifilm are investing is as yet unpublished. I doubt Houchen has backed Fuji with £4M for nowt though. If he has then the man is a bigger idiot than people call him on here.

Reading about the large increase in production facilities @ Billingham on the FujiFilm website - it sounds much more than a £4m investment @ Billingham. The Gazette article does not quote a figure for Billingham but Billingham appears the most stated part of the new global investment of £600m. I would guess its most of the £600m.

Apologies for posting some good news.

You didn't, you just made another guess. AM at least has a clue what's happening.

You MUST do more research than that. You are asking for trouble.
