Fuel shortage

and so the war on reality continues
Brexit has always been a war in reality. It's entire basis has been in outright lies.

Shame on those who continue to fall for them.

It looks like thats the way this country is going. The government, with complicit and malleable media, will just deflect from every one of their brexit failures with misdirection and blaming everything else. It'll be a constant stream of misinformation and outright lies (much like the original campaign) and it'll fool enough people to keep them in power and, more importantly, stop them from having to fix the problems. We've seen on here there is a hardcore of people who are happy to repeat the lies and will support their brexit unicorn despite the fact they don't actually know why.

EU driver numbers have gone up since April so it doesn't seem to be a reason.
Tax changes don't target just EU born drivers, but UK drivers also Bear. If anything that fact strengthens the argument for brexit not being the damaging factor in the driver shortage.

Your link said that all EU drivers had gone home. I think I'd ignore that nonsense.
It's not the only article that said that Bear, the FT reported the same thing as did Drive Hire, the largest hauler recruitment agency in the country. In fact the simple fact that Eu driver numbers have increased suggest the same thing. The opinion comes from fairly solid sources.

So are more EU drivers evidence of Brexit not being a problem or that IR35 issues increase the number of EU drivers? I'm confused.

At least European ports are handling our mess by taking large container ships not able to discharge at Felixstowe . . . then putting them on smaller ships to send them on to the UK.

Rising Eu drivers would be evidence that not as many as some would like to claim left the UK because of freedom of movement limitations, otherwise they would have gone back and lost their right to settle. The fact that they opted for settled status and re-entered the profession was for other economic reasons. they, at the point of re-entering the industry, had already opted to stay in the UK.

IR35 changes caused drivers of all stripes to call it a day. It's not confusing Bear, not in the least, but you already knew that, right?

We have people wanting to blame every thing that goes wrong with a crap government in charge, on brexit. Then claiming that people are ignoring the evidence of brexit, which I find quite ironic. Those shouting loudest and most don't really bother with much evidence, fuel shortages, timber shortages hike in energy prices, all brexit. Nah, not really, they are tory mismanagement issues. Oh I see now why, at least one poster wants to blame brexit!

A 2.5 hour ride out on my motorcycle. Saw at least 100 HGVs. Not one was a foreign registration. Thing have changed a lot.

I am not arguing that loads of EU drivers now no longer deliver in the UK. That wasn't my point Bear. Oh and motorcycle, very american!

Motorsickle . . . very New Zealand (The World's Fastest Indian).

Was it three cabotage loads that were allowed in EU states? It must be many 10s of thousands of lost transportations a day with no EU drivers and no EU cabotage rules?

That is certainly true Bear. Not sure of the cabotage limit, or, probably more importantly, the limit that would reasonably be expected. I have never argued this, nor am I arguing that now.

To Randy's point our filling station did run out for a few hours yesterday morning, but no queues at all today, in fact it has been quieter than usual, as you would expect.

Im convinced the last bloke in this video posts on here:

"We are the laughing stock of the world" and "I voted brexit and stand by that".

This is the scary thing for me now, everyone knows how bad brexit is. Even the brexitists. Yet they still support it. It's terrifying.
Stockholm Syndrome

Well the lever marked uncontrolled immigration has now been pulled. From three cabotage loads in a week in the EU, to two in a week post-Brexit to unlimited loads in 14 days.

Like it or not the fact remains that when someone takes 25% off your take home from what was already a shyte pay rate you're gonna do something else.
It doesn't just affect HGV drivers.
Lots, and I mean lots, of other workers who were somewhere near retirement have just said fk it and stopped working.
IR35 has had a massive effect on our economy and just another thing this government has massively mis-managed.

I am unconvinced that any changes to caboose will make a significant difference and I feel the same way about emergency visas.

Time will tell I guess.
