Fry next?

I have to say i didn't see anything significantly better in Lenihan than I have in Fry, but realise I'm likely to be a minority in that view.

Regardless of that I really can't see Fry leaving, not in this window at least - we're already short in several areas and his exit would just add to those issues.

I think he will be a back up myself. For the time being he could potentially play LCB but I would argue McNair is more suited to the position until we sign a specialist. Lenihan and Dijksteel are my first picks for the other spots.

I hope he stays too but like you I wouldn’t count on it
I am reserving judgement on Lenihan.
Hope we sign a LCB and agree Dijksteel is the best of the lot.

I think that is a fair comment. The way Dike easily outmuscled him at the end of the game was a bit worrying as that was a criticism levelled all the time at Fry. However Wilder obviously felt it was an area we needed to improve in and on balance, based on the last third of the season, I would tend to agree. Both Fry and McNair are good players, but for one reason or another, are not as consistent as they should be and as defenders, look bad when they make mistakes/get bullied.

To be fair Dike would outmuscle most centre halves - he's a big unit!

Dike is a monster though and will do that to anyone. If you noticed though in the next 2 instances Lenihan learned from his mistake and dropped off 5 years and it resulted in Dike not getting any joy and having to pass the ball off. I thought that was intelligent play. Some of his passing in the first half too was lovely and progressive. Top player

Lenihan is a massive talker, and I would happily wager will be our next captain, whereas Fry appears the complete opposite

Would it be fair to say this is where we are at the moment with the back three..

Dijksteel/McNair
Lenihan/Fry
Bola/Bilongo

Light on the left hand side. STRONG reinforcements needed for Fry & McNair tho.. much the same as with Tavernier!!

For me we need a proper hard as nails centre back who monsters people. We haven't had one since Ayala, and we were continually punished for it last season at both ends of the pitch. We never score from corners, and concede too often from them. Fry should be that player at 6.4 now he has filled out, but just doesn't seem aggressive enough. Lenihan has the character, but perhaps not quite the physique. Dijksteel, McNair, Bola all on the small side for centre halves. I know we want players who can pass and go forward for the wide centre back roles, but that makes it more important to have someone really dominant in the central role.

I think it's also a factor that he came on as sub, first game of the season and players that started the game would have been gassing, so everything was in Dike's favour. I think Lenihan was trying a bit too hard to attack the ball too often during the game, he'll settle down and make better decision about delaying instead of trying to win the ball the season goes on. QPR next game, Lyndon Dykes is a physical challenge but not the same ball park as Dike.
