Regardless of who is in charge or what's the best formation, we are going down with these four at the back. I'm sorry but facts are facts and we do not keep clean sheets. All four are a massive liability.

A defence is only as good as the team, by that I mean its everyone's job not just the defence. We had pretty much the same back four last season but we were much better at keeping the ball, we give the ball away far too easy, sloppy passes, losing concentration

Well here is a fact, 6 clean sheets since the turn of the year.
And here is my opinion, they are all not good enough and we will really struggle to stay up with these starting everyweek especially the fry/lenihan partnership.

We conceded 54 goals last season surely that was the first area to look at.
We concede constantly from corners, set pieces, long throw ins etc.
When was the last time we scored from a corner, set piece, long throw in.
They are just not aggressive enough.

One of karanka's 1st jobs was to stop conceeding we were awful to watch (how many minutes did we go without scoring a goal?) But he got it right in the end

This.
They've all shown they're more than capable at this level, but the system exposes them. That's not to let them off the hook, but the midfield has been just as culpable and the forwards have given the ball away too easily too.
You defend as a team and we've not done that well enough.
I'm not saying we rip the whole thing and start again but O'Brien needs to play and we probably need another body in midfield anyway. 433 for me. We're just too easy to play through when we lose the ball and the forwards aren't good enough to score enough at the other end to balance it out.
The balance is wrong. You can still play good attacking football without leaving gaping holes in midfield. Sort that out and the defenders will start to look more assured.

Hopefully we now have a back 4 that will be tight and not concede in Smith, Lenihan, RVB and Bangura.
Stick Howson Hackney and O’Brien in front of them and you have a solid base. Hopefully McGree as a 10 with Freeman and Latte Lath will revive our fortunes. We live in hope.
