Verstappen well ahead in the quali sims, could be championship defining on a track that Merc would usually dominate

I went to the French F1 GP at Paul Ricard in 2018. It may be picturesque with great weather but it's in the middle of nowhere with a poor road infrastructure set up.

I think this could indicate whether Mercedes are having a blip or there really has been a power shift towards the can sellers.

As you say, this is a Mercedes suited track. The last couple of failures could be written of as street circuits that mercedes aren't a fan of. This one is different. Red Bull win here and it shows they have the ascendency. @zorro_mfc will be creaming in his Love you Max Underpants. :)

Despite a dry track the rain might already have had an effect: Max lock up and ham oversteer: has the rain washed all the rubber off making them struggle for grip?

Also thought: qualifying is so important for the front runners. It doesn’t seem as important at the back: for however good Schumacher and Russell were in qualy they are back at the back and both behind their team mates

Lewis complained about his tyres. Regular as clockwork. I bet he doesn’t get a Christmas card from Pirelli!

Couple it with his mistake as soon as max got in his wing mirrors, bloody awful from bottas and not for the first time

Last 2 races a mistake from Hamilton and one from Mercedes on strategy. Both pretty rare over the last few seasons but teams on different strategies is one of the few things that make races more interesting. Mercedes definitely being pushed by Red Bull this year.
