Freddie Woodman to Preston on a permanent

Preston have signed Freddie Woodman from Newcastle on a permanent deal. So Iverson won't be returning there and does that change anything for Darlow? Feels like the goalkeeping merry go round is starting to fall into place, piece by piece.

Think either Darlow or Iversen would be great signings rather than Heaton, Foster or Butland. Would prefer Iversen out of the 2 - played very well for an average team, many games played as opposed to Darlow who hasn’t played much last season👍

I think Preston conceded Iversen wouldn't be coming back weeks ago, Leicester are apparently wanting a permanent move if anything happens and it's not cheap.

Newcastle are about to sign Pope, so Darlow will be third choice at Newcastle next season, which will open it up for us if we're interested.

I'd prefer Iversen, but Darlow will do and would be significantly cheaper.

Darlow has been playing in the Premier League....he's the one we should get, no contest....
Thanks 👍

The Evening Standard reckons Jack Butland is of interest to Boro now that Palace are signing Sam Johnstone from WBA.
It's like a merry-go-round with 'keepers.

Didn't realise Butland was only 29 - but he's been a regular first team since he was 18....seems to have been around forever.

Haven't seen him at Palace but remember at Stoke he looked very average, so not sure.

A (sensible, non rabid) Newcastle supporting lad I know reckons Darlow will be a good signing. Not a top PL keeper but certainly top end Championship/bottom end PL quality which would suit us.

Iverson......do we want to pay a lot of money (for us) for a keeper when we have so many positions to sort? And when you think there are a few keepers out there on frees/loans this may prove to be the better option.

Interesting........and I'm looking forward to seeing how good the new lad Roberts is👍

I suppose it depends what we see Roberts doing. Have we brought him in to start (I don't get the impression that we have), as a number 2 who we won't expect to see much of or someone to develop for the 1st team. If he's seen as a potential long-term keeper then it makes sense that who we bring in will be number 1 for a season or 2 until he's ready to take over. That points to an older, more experienced keeper like Heaton.

I'm not sure I want someone like Darlow who we may have to replace if we are promoted and I don't want to loan a young keeper that prevents our own players developing. I wouldn't be up for paying big money for a keeper either. Seems to be very difficult to find a good one and an expensive one that doesn't work out might make us stuck with them for quite a while.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'd like to see Roberts as our #1, and then bring in a #2 who's ready to take the #1 spot (should it not work out with Roberts).

We keep signing the same type of keeper... Lumley, Daniels, Archer, Bettinelli, even Randolph.... they all have nothing to prove in the championship, and when they fail they just move on to another championship club like Lumley has, or to warm the premier league bench like Bettinelli.

If we sign Darlow he's the same, if he comes here and fails he just moves on to another "same level" club.

Roberts is coming from being player of the year in League 2, moving up two divisions... He's got some really good GK coaches here and I think the fans will initially back him... It's his one big shot to grab.
