Frank Bough RIP

Terrible, what the press did to his career, just for a few days of selling their awful wares. He was a brilliant presenter and deserves to be remembered with much greater generosity. Lived on Teesside for a while too, working in the labs for ICI back in the day. RIP.

Oh sad, RIP Frank, another of my fond childhood memories
Didn't know that Frank worked on Teesside for ICI

Frank Bough was in a scandal that basically put paid to his television career.
He had allegedly been visiting prostitutes who he paid to smack him.
There were other people involved but Frank was the one the papers went for.
When you see some of the things that people who actually run the country have been up to.... and got away with he seems hard done by.
He blew it all because of a few indiscretions.

I must say, I thought the guy died years ago.

So some guy pays ladies to spank him? No reason why you should lose your job. The majority of people don’t give a flying fook, or do they.

Thats how it was back then.

Careers were finished if you had the tiniest whiff of scandal and the papers ( mainly the News if the World back then ) got hold of it.

We have all probably done some things in our lives that we might not be keen on others knowing about. I really think what people do behind closed doors is nobody else’s business providing everyone is a consenting adult and it isn’t illegal. I always liked the phrase “while you were busy judging others you left your cupboard door ajar and all your skeletons fell out”.

Frank was a part of growing up in our house. A top presenter and his treatment following the ‘revelations’ was awful, more distasteful than his behaviour.

R.I.P Frank

I agree with the sentiment of your post but aren't coke & whores illegal?

Frank Bough was one of those TV icons of my youth like David Coleman and David Vine and Harry Carpenter.

He took over from Coleman on Grandstand and was a natural. epitomised the jumper look taken on by Des Lynam. The original presenter of bbc breakfast and I recall his many holiday trips with his wife Nesta for the Holiday programme too.
A sad and unfair ending to his career. He deserved better.

I remember him jokingly correcting someone on the BBC about the pronunciation of " Acklam",
" To avoid complaints I think you'll find that's pronounced Aacklam by a lot of people who live there. "
