France Placed on Quarantine List

Was due next month to do a London to Paris cycle ride. This is the nail that finishes whether it goes ahead.

I'm due in Paris end of September. Anyone know how long these usually last, or is arbitrary? Or should I just check with Prime Minister Cummings?

So there is a scramble today to get home. We have form - let’s set up a d day operation and bring these poor stranded holidaymakers home. A flotilla of boats across the channel Is ready to spring into action.

or maybe not.

It's arbitrary. The Spain one is still in effect though so I wouldn't think they'll rush to end it.

Can you WFH? I'm supposed to be in France next month too. I have been working from home for the past 4 months so I don't think my boss will mind if I HAVE to end of September. The only worry is, will they reciprocate? Probably. Which will change everything. Oh they have said they WILL reciprocate.

I can work from home yes but it’s the mental thought of being at home for two weeks just for a Trip or a break in France. I’d rather not go. No thanks is my choice.

That's fair enough. I was willing to take the hit. I barely go out due to the virus anyway. Moot point really because France's reciprocation will make the trip pointless.

Easy solution if you get stranded in France. Buy yourself a dinghy come across the channel escorted by the French and land in Dover.

Is it arbitrary :)
Best get invited on a Focus Group

I'm due to go over to the Tour de France late September, although I'm actually flying to Basel to link up with my mates who live there before driving across to France. I've no problem with isolating when I get back (I'm WFH for the rest of the year anyways) but if I have to isolate when I get to France then a 2 day trip over the border from CH to FR isn't going to be feasible.

Although will I have even have to quarantine given I'm going from Switzerland and not the UK ?

They might work it out, but yeah flying in to Switzerland might be a good get around

In short - Yes..... but
When you return to UK you may be asked if you have been anywhere else.
Depends what you say next

I came back from France via Caen and they asked me in case I’d been to Spain.
I hadn’t but wouldn’t have told them if I had - like many on the Ferry who’d driven across from Spain

I don't think that many of the idiots who have chosen to holiday abroard during a pandemic will be too bothered about having to go in to quarantine on return.
In fact quite the opposite. Not sure their employers will have the same view

Listening to R4 and they were interviewing a British holidaymaker who has had to drastically change plans and is now dashing to Dunkirk to catch a ferry back to Dover, and I could sense in the air the twitching of gammon pants across the nation at the very thought of a 2020 evacuation of Brits from a French beach.

No worries with quarantining in the UK when I return, that's not really a big change from what I've been doing already. My question is would I have to quarantine coming into France given I'm driving over the border from Switzerland with a load of Swiss residents rather than coming direct from the UK.

Because of course those pesky foreigners are so bad at containing the virus, whereas the good old British have it beaten and so the only way you can catch it is by going abroad? FFS
