Football League & FA Cup start tonight

League Cup started midweek too
Newport - playing in red and white stripes in a very rare clash of colours for them - knocked out Barnet on penalties

Think tomorrow will be the earliest FA cup match I’ve ever been to by a considerable margin.

The Barnet v Newport game had quite a finish (yes, I was watching it and, yes, I need to get a life).

Barnet were losing 2-0 after 97 minutes with 7 minutes of stoppage time having been displayed when they got a (seemingly) late consolation out of the blue. They then regained possession from the kick off, went down the field and made it 2-2 to force the penalty shoot out with the last kick of the match.

They lost the shoot out but I can't remember seeing a team turn around a two goal deficit so late before.

Was the Barnet v Newport a preliminary round then? and if so, what’s the reason? I’m sure this hasnt happened before.

Saw Norwichh turn round a three goal defecit fairly late against us back in Mclarens day, sure 2 of them wre injury time with the goal to make it 4-2 being just a couple of minutes before 90 mins. I think Fulham did it fairly late as well after Maccarone had given us a 2-0 lead (his home debut?)

Didn’t we also lose at home to Palace in Full Members Cup in 1989 3-2 after going 2-1 up in the 90th minute too?

With a snorter from way out by Cooper. Remember this game as we had also taken the lead v Grimsby in FA cup that season very late before losing to 2 even later goals and it cost me money as my mate said we will only throw it away again and with the stupidity of youth I bet him a quid.

So letting in 2 very late goals this week was unique amongst the other 91 clubs - but we’re experts at it!!

I think the supporters of then newly promoted Norwich City quite enjoyed coming back from 4-1 down that time after our supporters had spent most of the match taunting them by singing "Premier League? You're having a laugh".

I've just seen my first supporters coach of the new season parked up and waiting for latecomers before setting off I assume to Doncaster. Well done to the citizens of Exeter for producing really big lumps , who must normally hide away for fear of scaring their fellow citizens, they seemed to identify each other by wearing Stone Island jackets or tops.

I seem to remember they’d gone 1-0 up - so at 1-4 Boro fans were chanting ‘1-0 and you f,u-c,ked it up’
So when it got to 4-4 their fans - understandably - chanted ‘’4-1 and….’
