Just been thinking about football rivalries and how they change over the years..

Sunderland used to be more of a big deal.. but I think after a few years in the wilderness.. they just seem to have dropped off now. Like an embarrassing cousin who just stopped going to family get togethers.. they are all angry and feel hard done to.

Coventry.. thought they were a bit shan under Gordon Strachan.. but then we decided to take him on an all.. and then I felt their pain. Pretty even last season and with a touch of fate we ended living in each others back pockets.. they cam out on top in the end.. but still seemed like 'football friends' - pfft trying to whip up a rivalry and then acting like nobbers at the riverside.. it's not you.. it's me..

Leeds.. urggh.. thei fans are total whoppers.. but then maybe not as bad as Chelsea of Spurs.. Sam Greenwood and Luke Ayling.. cheers lads.. maybe they're alright-ish after all

Huddersfield.. 100% football friends.. so maybe we can't go to the pictures with Leeds. Ah well

West Brom.. what the fook is their deal.. bunch of inbred creeps.. where did they even come from. Speaking of which Derby County.. out of nowhere.. we save their club and then they are are after shtying in the concourse.

Blackburn have always been sound.. bit of kinship there I think.. 3 points.. sigh.. Tony Mowbray.. Stewart Downing. Yeah, they are sound I think.. but they don't get on with out BESTIES Preston.. jeez

Sheffield United have gone down the pan.. never really been a fan.. but now Wilder.. nah.. not having it.

How many football friends are you even allowed? Preston, Cardiff, Huddersfield, Blackburn..

Sunderland have gone totally mental haven't they.. can't be doing with all that packed lunch or geordies stuff.. total gimps.
Leeds.. still could be a genuine rivalry there.. Leicester too.. West Brom are the pits.. who else? Coventry.. just cos they've made up some beef?

Favourable to West Yorkshire.. apart from Leeds and not loving the midlands.. apart from maybe Villa

In Italy they have a concept of football 'twinning' where the fans sing positive songs at each other and both sets of fans chant together about other teams. Verona and Fiorentina are the ones I remember from a good book by Tim Parks 'a season with Verona'

And is it Huddersfield and Bradford that sing 'West Yorkshire, apart from Leeds?'

It has been known for is to start singing we all hate Leeds scum and the opposition fans to join in(e.g.at Bradford).
