Looks like on the 6Music thread there's a few of us into jazz, so spinning off a separate thread for recommendations.

My current listens, none of which are particularly challenging or experimental :-

1) Martin Freeman & Eddie Pillar present Jazz on the corner 2 (Compilation from Acid Jazz chief and renowned jazz fan Tim from The Office)
2) We Out Here - Various (Collection of new British jazz from Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recording label)
3) Moses Boyd - Dark Matter (More UK Jazz)
4) Chet Baker Sings ( Just because it's probably my favorite jazz album of all time)

Like a bit of jazz myself. They do (did) some good stuff at The Sage including the annual "A Very Jazzy Christmas" with locals Paul Eddis and Jo Harrop. Jo has a great jazzy voice and has just released an album. Very mellow. The sort of thing you listen to late on a night with a nice single malt (mmm nice ).

Speaking of Chet Baker ...............

That could be cool, we used to go to SF Jazz a lot when we lived in the states, highlight was always the live performance of The Vince Guaraldi Trio's A Charlie Brown Christmas, so looking for new Christmas jazz highlights.

Ronnie's at Christmas is always fun, especially the lunchtime shows.

We've been a couple of times. Afternoon around Newcastle, Christmas meal in the Sage before the concert and stop over at the Jury's on the Quayside (Gateshead side).
