Fellow posters, we are all acutely aware of the ongoing Corona Virus outbreak that is changing the way we live and work. This is an escalating situation and we are asking for everyone to read this and consider what they can do to help us as a nation get through the crisis as best we can.

We would ask everyone to take a moment to think about how much even the smallest gesture could mean to someone who is in one of the high risk groups at this trying time.

Social distancing is the biggest and best weapon that we have as individuals to control the spread of this virus, but we will see an increasing need for people to show greater community spirit to help those in our immediate neighbourhoods and those in the wider area.

We are not asking anyone to commit to anything that they think could compromise their own safety or the safety of their family or anyone they already care for. We are also aware from posts on the forums that many people are already showing tremendous civic responsibility and helping out in various ways.

MFC, the local councils and charities across the region are all looking at ways to help those most at risk from this virus. We will add contact details for such organisations here so that you can volunteer to help them if you consider it viable.

If you can't make a commitment to volunteer for one of the organised efforts you can still make a difference in your local neighbourhood.

Contact your neighbours if you can and ask how you can help. It may be as simple as taking the dog out, picking up a prescription or even giving someone a few loo rolls or a bag of pasta to tide them over. If you can offer to get supplies in for the vulnerable then that would be most helpful, just remember the social distancing. Even a simple conversation over a garden fence or from the end of a drive while practising good social distancing might actually help someone who is in self-isolation still feel connected to the world. A regular Skype or telephone call is also a possibility.

If you know of any local groups in your area that would benefit from their message reaching a wider audience of potential volunteers then please add their contact details here including the area they are covering.

Please refrain from adding any comments or plaudits to this thread, let's keep it exclusively for volunteer information to avoid confusion.

We would also ask everyone to regularly check the NHS advice pages and heed the information and advice of the government.
