Five criminally overrated bands (in your opinion) and five criminally underrated bands (also in your opinion)...

I’d like to think that at 57 I’ve got quite a varied taste in music and of course it’s all about personal taste. As far as underrated is concerned, I can’t walk past Talking Heads.
 
Mumford and sons keep getting a mention. What I don't understand why the radio does not have an automated turn over as they come on.

Once made a Coldplay compilation for my late wife. I single CDs worth. It was pretty decent TBH but I had to wade through some poor stuff befor I arrived at the final track listing. Will have to dig it out and see how it stands up today.
 
When they first came out I thought these arn't bad, bought the album the smiths and was disappointed, next I bought a hat full of hollow then meat is murder, and thought, that's it they are not for me. So you cant say I didn't give them a go. My mate was chuffed to bits when he got 3 albums for nowt😁😁

Ah but you missed The Queen Is Dead which is one the finest albums of all time.

Some of Chris Martin's posturing is a bit cringey, but he seems like a decent bloke fundamentally (he shares all royalties equally with the other members). I really like that the other three are in one of the biggest bands in the world, but could probably shop in Morrisons untroubled.
As for the music, as a singles band they are outstanding. Up until the last few years at any rate. In that respect they are made for festivals .... good, sing a long songs. I don't find them especially bland. There's enough variety in what they have done over 20 years. And "Fix You" is a work of genius.

I agree about Fix You, which is a classic. Written for Gwyneth Paltrow after the death of her father I believe.

Queen, Rolling Stones, Genesis, Dire Straits, Blur - all sh*te

Underrated:
Mogwai, Doves, Badly Drawn Boy, The Beta Band, Dinosaur Jr.

I could probably do a list of 5 vs 5 for another 20 genres beyond rock/indie (that most people have focused on)
