First FA Cup Final since 1968

I agree, I feel that the PL has tried to erode the cup but it’s always had the same appeal for me. The FA cup is magic, steeped in history.

Not trying to change the subject but I think the champions league has become boring, there’s something about ‘actual champions’ playing knockout games rather than the tedious thing it’s evolved into. As I said I’m not trying to steer the discussion away from the point you’re making it’s just another illustration as to how the big club, big money mentality has changed the sport we love.
That said Aresenl v Chelsea zzzzzzzx

When you think, it was the ONLY game shown live, apart from the Home Internationals and England games! Imagine telling that to kids now when there is a game pretty much live, every night?!

Used to be great, too, when in the 60's and 70's every year seemed to be two different teams and all clubs had a chance to winning. Ah, the good ole days.... I just saw some young uns roll their eyes at that!!

We
This will be the first FA Cup Final I have missed since 1968 when I was nearly 7 years old.

The cup final was always a massive event on the calendar in our household and we would all gather round to watch it. My mum would make sandwiches, sausage rolls, cakes and my brother and I would spend our pocket money on sweets for the occasion. The girls would be sent packing to my nans

Viewing would start on the Friday night with the players families and locals from each town being interviewed, In the 70’s is here was even a special ‘It’s a Knockout’ against the two teams involved.

Coverage started early again the next morning with cameras being at the team hotels and they would follow each teams coach to the stadium. Overkill some might say, but it was tradition and I liked it.

I understand the reason for breaking with tradition and have sympathy with the clubs, but it is another nail in the coffin of our greatest competition.

I have always felt that the PL are jealous of this competition and have manipulated the FA into sanitising it. The lack of replays pays testament to this.

The main reason for missing it is due to being on holiday, but the other reason is the lack of fans and the sterile atmosphere. I have mentioned on many occasions that I felt the season should have been null and void.

Windy - There was more than that, but I couldn’t be pestered. 🤣🤣🤣
Went to the 1968 final , got tickets of Colin Bell , was 11 at the time , wonderful day and first time in London

i think it was at its peak in the 70s, will still watch iam a sucker for tradition , not the same for me since dad passed away, enjoyed watching it together

It was a national institution. Build up Friday. It's a knockout saturday morning. Riding with the teams. Songs and hymns from the pitch.
Wonderful and free to air..
Now it's a bit meh!
And the TV times had the cover & the times schedule inside,

And the FA Cup songs as recorded by the teams! Whilst watching that brilliant documentary about Howard Kendall and that awesome Everton side, there it was, on Wogan! The squad singing 'Here we go, here we go, here we go... Everton are the best we all know' whilst all resplendent in track suits. Thems were tha days!

I will never hate football, but have a huge dislike for the way it is governed and the way it’s sold it soul to the money men. One of the reasons why the FA Cup is suffocating.

Don't see the problem with, if it offends you don't open or reply to his posts, you know what Norman & myself really, are about

Fair enough. I shouldn’t have opened it you’re right. I suppose I was hoping the thread wouldn’t just be yet another about how Norman wasn’t going to watch a football match, I thought it was going to be an interesting fact about something. But it was.

Only found out it was on this morning. About as interested as I am in the Premier League. We're having a street party this afternoon anyway, far more entertaining.

I just had to check what time it was on! And what happened to the Scottish cup final? Did I miss it or was it cancelled?!

A professional football match, why does that get to you?
