Finley Cartwright’s shirt

It was just a case of getting him on the pitch and take away the nerves a bit. The team passed to him a fair bit. He made some tidy short passes. Tried a through ball that didn't come off and got flattened twice.
It will have done him good.

Rumoured to be keen on a move to Chelsea... Getting him on the fringe of the first team might change his mind or will strengthen our hand when it comes to compensation if he does leave. Very clever really.
Quite possibly the worst club in the world to go to for developing youngsters

Except for all the players that have come through their system and are now playing at the highest level. How many players that develop at us make it to the top?
Pretty much all of Chelsea ex-youth players development have came from being away from Chelsea

I hope we are not playing him based on a threat that he will leave for chelsea. Dont care how good you are, you earn your place on merit not reputation.

I’m not sure on him being keen on them, but they were certainly keen on him over the summer.

They had the possibility to sign him for negligible compensation, maybe 1mill in the summer as he hadn’t been able to sign a contract with us as he hadn’t turned 16. For him to have played last night he must have signed a contract with us now, which means Chelsea can’t take him for minimal compensation. Instead they would need to offer us significant money.

Judging by his performance last night and at Bradford he is playing very much on merit - threw himself into both games immediately and into the heart of our passing game. Really impressive.

He will be on the bench a fair bit with the new nine-subs ruling you would imagine. I’m normally opposed to having so many subs because the wealthiest teams will end up stacking their bench with senior talent that should be on the pitch, but for other clubs it might actually bridge the gap between the youths and seniors a little bit.

As long as they do not miss out on actual playing time. I guess there is a balance to be struck between experience on the bench and competitive football.
