Finally bothered to find out what a troll is.

As I often get labelled with the term I thought I'd better find out what it means. I know the term has been around as long as the internet but I always associated it with lazy people who couldn't be bothered to reason something out and rely on a one word insult.

So according to wikipedia:

"Later, in Scandinavian folklore, trolls became beings in their own right, where they live far from human habitation, are not Christianized, and are considered dangerous to human beings. Depending on the source, their appearance varies greatly; trolls may be ugly and slow-witted, or look and behave exactly like human beings, with no particularly grotesque characteristic about them. "

It seems all encompassing and I can see why someone would use such as a term if you could say all those things with just one word.

But I think my original hypothesis is about right
 
Further investigation on the definition results in this
‘A troll (noun) was originally a mythical ugly creature, now it usually means an intentionally disruptive person on the internet. ... That's how baiting people on the internet came to be known as trolling’

So, when you say
‘I always associated it with lazy people who couldn't be bothered to reason something out and rely on a one word insult’....
Do you see that the hypothesis could be interpreted by some as ‘baiting’ therefore fit the extended definition?
 
"intentionally disruptive" We all fit that. Depends on how you define disruptive. The very act of posting anything at all is disruptive.

Sounds reasonable to me.
There is a critical part in the definition referring to ‘baiting’.
If you label people as ‘lazy’ and use phrases like ‘couldn’t be bothered’ - do you see how others may see that kind of language as ‘baiting’

I prefer to see it as encouraging the flow of juice

‘couldn’t be bothered’ - I actually said finally bothered
oops yes I did later - oh well but I have bothered to correct myself

As you were told many times a long long time ago - read the question fully.
You were asked how others could view it.
You answered how you see it

That’s C/D territory at best - not your normal standard
