Films that for you were better than the IMDB rating

Last night me and Mrs Marwood cuddled up together on the sofa and watched The Laundromat which has a terrific cast. It has a lowly score of 6.3 on IMDB but we both thoroughly enjoyed it and felt it deserved 7+ in our opinion.

Do you have a similar experience of watching a film that in your opinion far exceeded the rating on IMDB?

Pretty much everything on IMDB to be honest.
Always seems to me that the scores on there are harshly projected.

But to answer your question.....'The Village' was a really good film imo. IMDB - 6.6

Would be a solid 8.5 for me.

The Ninth Gate.

Obviously not as good as Polanski's other occult thriller Rosemary's Baby, but I love the main performances, and I think you need to watch it more than once to get
all the clues. Some are disappointed by the end, but I'm not sure what else they could have done.
I would give it at least 1.5 more than it's rating.

Any Carry On Film pre 1970. The highest rated Carry on Film on IMDB got a rating of 6.8. Utter nonsense. That was Carry on Up The Kyber. Carry On Jack only got 5.8.

Anything above 6 is a good enough watch usually. Same with about 60% and above in RT. 7+ should be a really good film and repeat watch without an issue.

Dark knight 9.0, Schindler list 9.0, pulp fiction 8.9, forest gump 8.8, silence of the lambs 8.6, green mile 8.6 etc - these are all massive historic films that most people would love and generally favourite film material for many, sort of film people watch many times.

The village is an ok movie but the twist is fairly awful, I certainly wouldn't put it up with the films that are 8-9 on there. Putting it to 8.5 puts it like 80ish in the list of top movies of all time which I am sure not many would agree with

Some movies will be better than their score if they get railroaded for subject matter as does happen time to time

Glengarry Glen Ross
In Bruges
Ronin

Three of my favourite films of all time. Scores on IMDB range between 7.2 and 7.9. How the hell do you get an 8 on there?

Movies tend to get less average marks than TV Shows. Maybe because fan boys rush to give their favourite show a Ten after watching 5 minutes of it.

A view to a kill 6.3. Should be over a 7 for me.

Yeah Moore is starting look his age a bit, but that adds to the charm for me. It's a bond film not meant to be taken too seriously. Walken is absolutely brilliant as the pyscho villain, it's got Grace Jones and the theme from Duran Duran is great.

Suspect Bond purists dislike it because it's a bit too light hearted, but I think it's a lot better than 6.3

Really? I tend to shoot for a 90%+ on RT! Must be missing a lot of very good films ha.

Whisky Galore (2016 remake) rated 5.9 on IMDB.

It is a rather lovely easy "Sunday afternoon" movie, won't offend anyone, won't win any awards but it is nice to look at with gentle "British" humour. Sufficiently different to the original to be worth watching (original gets 7.1)

I'd say a 60% film won't be very good but it will be a decent watch. Above-mentioned The village for example is 44% critic and 57% audience which is about where I'd expect it to be

There is a list there of 70-79%'s and some brilliant films on there, I'd say anything 70-79% would be a very good watch. Anything 90%+ I'd be expecting amazing things of and to be in classic territory

I watch a lot of films and to decide what to watch I flick through a lot of IMDb, RT and meta critic lists as well as lists of upcoming movies etc.

I generally like to make my own mind up but life is too short to be watching most 4/10 and below stuff - I gave it a go for a fair while but found I always agreed with that rating and they were fairly poor. I'll download all promising sci-fi, horror etc for the genres I like and add them to watch lists but if they come out and they're panned I rarely bother with it as I've usually got a massive backlog on the go between films and tv shows that I'd rather focus on the good stuff

I don't really pay any attention to IMDB ratings. I watched a horror film last night. 7.5 rating on IMDB. It was sh*te.
