looking for a decent film to watch on either Netflix or Amazon Prime, the TV is getting desperate now, any decent drama or actions films, been scrolling through the dramas but taking forever.......anyone seen either Uncut Gems' with Adam Sandler or Manchester by the Sea with Casey Affleck, are either any good.......or if not any other recommendations??? cheers.

Couldn't get into Uncut Gems but Manchester by the Sea is very good.

Captain Fantastic is excellent for which Viggo Mortensen was Oscar nominated.

Just been watching Trotsky drama on Netflix - interesting how his relationship developed with Lenin and Stalin. It was a very rocky one. Trotsky quickly spotted the Bolsheviks were not really for working class people, more for themselves like the pigs in Animal Farm with an intense desire for power at all costs. He also faced extreme anti-Semitism from all sections of Russian society. In the end he threw his hat in with the Bolsheviks in 1917 to change Russian Society.

The drama appears made for A Russian audience, today Russia looks on the Bolsheviks with a certain level of disdain unless its a WW2 drama when the Germans invaded the USSR.

It was always assumed trotsky would be Lenin’s natural successor as Stalin was akin to a little more than a thug that had risen up the ranks but Lenin only realised when it was too late.
Stalin positioned himself at the foot of Lenin’s funeral procession to symbolise that he was the successor.
I often wonder how different history would have been with trotsky in charge instead of the Georgian “devil”.

Not a film, but possibly the thing I've enjoyed most has been "Comrade Detective" on Amazon Prime. Bonkers brilliance. The use of Monopoly had me in tears.

Platform is a clever idea, manchester by the sea is excellent (but could be heavy, depends on your taste), inception is free to view now on prime too.

Blinded by the Light (Amazon Prime) - based on a true story of a young Asian lad finding encouragement to be a writer through the music of Bruce Springsteen

The Aeronauts (Amazon Prime) - rip roaring daring do in a hot air balloon

I’ll echo green book . This is a cracking film underpinned by it being a true account .
That’s debatable though if you look at his family’s reaction. They say it is making out the pair were equals when the reality was far from the truth. But some evidence has cast doubt on this.

people don’t always associate the us with An apartheid style system but that is exactly what they had and the severity of is often downplayed especially by Hollywood.

My Uncle's family lived in South Africa from 1965 to 1994. He was a draughtsmen on Teesside who sold Vespa scooters on a weekend). The family moved from a little bungalow at the back of the Pied Piper (on Ormesby Bank) to a large range house in Port Elizabeth. They visited us in 1978 and mentioned in a conversation that they had a servant, because it was so cheap to employ black people. This black women they told me was unreliable they said she lived in a shed in their garden. I liked my Uncle, but when he asked me over to live in South Africa in 1984 to work for him, when I was looking for work I had to say no. I could not be part of that system at the time. I would rather be living in Bankfields living on fresh air.
