Fights on Brighton seafront and Cornwall condemns "ignorant tourists" for openly flouting covid-19 rules: Mail Online

If there is an upside to this current scenario, it is that generally, people are realising that freedom to do just what you like is not a given right:
Healthwise - if those who think its not going to infect them and do as theyve always done - its a "hit the buffers" moment.
Its not a dictatorship like with a baton, a bullet or a weapon, but it says "take collective responsibility"!
Generations have grown up with the "me, me, me" mentality.
Its not applicable when peoples lives are at stake.
Its a kick up the arze we need to remind us we are mere mortals.

I am so sad to see such selfish and arrogant people.
They must know they can be infected and not suffer any symptoms.
They must know they are risking passing it on to more vulnerable family who could suffer and even die in a horrible way.
Why risk it?
I don't understand why they don't care.

Nailed it on the head.

Irresponsible people who are apparently ignorant of the results of their selfish actions.

Its happening in pubs, golf courses shops, schools, etc etc etc. Goverment slack things enough to blame the public. Started with cummings. Theres a lot to blame. People cant discipline themselves. Spoiling it for shielders who do because if they dont they,ll die. Others dont give a pile of number 2
Correct, why can't folk be sensible & adult about it all, all the pictures with bulging people on our beeches, Liverpool, Leeds victory celebrations, add to that the 1000's of protestor, people will sadly do as they please, the guidelines are for other people not them

I agree that Cummings was irresponsible and totally wrong in his actions and should have lost his job because of his actions but it doesn't give carte blanche to every dickead in the country to follow his actions.
True Holgate, people know what they're doing & just don't care one iota

People doing things without considering the possible consequences, or possibly not having the ability to process what the consequences may be for themselves or others.

Let's not use low life such as Cummings as an excuse.

Agreed.
People have "free will" [John Stewart Mill]

However, leadership comes by example from the front.
A good leader takes full responsibility for his actions and for the consequences of those actions for others.

Yes. And let us not forget that Cummings is not an elected person but is only supposedly an ADVISER to the elected government.

His prominence is troubling.

When you're young, you think you're invulnerable. "It won't happen to me".
We've all felt like that when we were young haven't we?

The problem is trying to get through to them that their action could have serious repercussions on the older generation including THEIR parents and grandparents.

I agree, but I think all the info about it only killing the old and the vulnerable has had an effect on attitudes

I saw a snippet of a discussion on the BBC News channel today and the bloke on the panel said he and his son had had words over the son flouting the rules and the sons reply was very much that it is the older generation dictating to the young.
The whole messaging has been muddled from the start and there does seem to be a disconnect between the young and their part in the whole infection matrix.
There's been reports in the US of some serious effects on young people who caught it and suffered lung problems severe enough to warrant transplants due to the damage.
We're so deep into the pandemic now that it may take a second wave of fatalities and subsequent lockdown to drive home the potential life-changing consequences to a lot of people, not just the younger generation.
Fingers crossed we don't see that second wave, but if we continue like we are then the odds of it happening increase.
