FFP loophole closing for Newcastle

You can get round salary caps via image rights. The dodgy sponsorship deal simply shifts from the club to the player. Mbappe signs for a modest £100,000 a week from NUFC, but Saudi Pies n' gravy International pay him £50m a year for image rights.
A salary cap was also imposed by league 1 & 2, but then thrown out because the PFA fought it in court.

It's funny how Man City abstained from a vote!

I suspect the latest move to prevent Newcastle gate crashing the "big 6" will be challenged and over turned. The likes of Man United and Spurs will be desperate as it's them who could suffer should Newcastle start becoming a top side.

don't forget that Saudi and Abu Dhabi/UAE arent currently on the best of terms.

The richest teams will simply seek out another loophole.

Still, even if they do work around it, there are only so many trophies to go round. Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea are still strong, but then you have plenty of other teams with the wage structures and stadiums of trophy winning teams... minus the silverware.

Perhaps the league cup won't be such a tin pot when it's the first thing NUFC win this side of the microwave oven hitting the shops.

It's the right thing to do but they're only doing it because they don't want another club to join the party.

I heard that there's oil underneath St James and the Saudi will buy the stadium and the land for billions.

What could possibly go wrong?

The truth behind the Newcastle deal is that they will become a feeder club for the Boro. I mean that. All these megastars will soon get fed up of not even getting a place on the bench. Wheres the best place to put them out on loan without even having to move away from their geordie mansion ? Most of them will be living in Wynyard anyway.

The Saudis won't even be bothered about getting their wages paid.
Obviously Sland is not an option to put a player out on loan. They will still be third division next season.

They could always enter this

I hope they do challenge it & are successful
I dont agree with who the owners are but why should the same 5, 6 PL teams say who can & cant spend what they want

It's not 5 & 6 but 18 teams out of the premier league who voted against. I dare say the efl clubs would too if they had a say. Its not out of envy, or protectionism its about fairness, we cant just let teams have an unlimited budget its a cheat to get round FFP, we have seen how the rise of the premier league elite has negatively impacted other leagues finances it has a trickle down effect. Its not about it being Newcastle but about the good of the game it. If Newcastle start playing 500,000 a week to attract top players, who wouldn't otherwise come then that impacts salaries throughout the game.

disagree slightly on this.

I don't think this vote would have been considered if it wasn't for this take over, and if it was the greedy six would have voted against it. This is what they have been doing for years for own gain. As soon as that is threatened they vote against the very thing that got at least half of them in to the position in first place.

As they potentially can't compete with the new kid on the block, they cut the legs off at the knees.

Yep. It's no different to the British Government selling billions in weapons to the Saudis.

My post had nothing to do with politics but the top teams spending millions then voting against another team outspending them
