Feedback on new site thread

Being able to pull down (swipe down) on the forum to refresh it would be nice, as with other forums and websites.
I think this is a function of the browser you us. Not sure it is site specific. I am using And Block Plus browser (with the site whitelisted). I can do a pull down refresh with this browser.

If you use the site search facility and search for 'dark mode' you'll find a solution for Chrome users that I've posted on the thread by Seductive Barry.

I could link it, but we'll call it a little lesson in searching ;)

Just a reminder of the bug displaying ads on the ad block plus browser. The ads may be back for others. There are just grey blobs and a sad face for me. Even though the site is whitelisted for adverts.

I can cope with the big top and bottom adverts. However I feel that the bottom advert should be placed after the post reply box. Rather than between the last post and the post reply box.

I feel that it would be less intrusive that way.

Given that the idea is that we are testing this site I thought it would be good to post a thread so we can provide some useability feedback for things that are good and those that are more constructive. This would hopefully make it a bit more seamless when new users are migrated over.

I'm sure that there will be loads of other things that get mentioned over time as I've only made a couple of posts but heres a couple to start:

Good: The search function is really positive not only having the availability to search for keywords but by poster also. Having the search autofill a posters username as you type is really good and saves time.

Constructive:

I think it may be possible that you will get tons of people moaning about the number of emails that they receive each time somebody posts in a thread they've contributed to by default. Perhaps set profiles so that they do NOT automatically watch threads or change profile notifications by default so that it's more like the current default experience

I might have to leave them for now - and try and tweak next week. We need to have ads in view to gain revenue - but is more tricky placing them than I thought. So, trying to follow some other forums lead on this. It will get easier once we have content pages as well. But those adverts are the entire revenue for this venture at the moment.

Oh yes - I see. I have a meeting with a developer next week. I would rather he look at it than me muck it all up, to be honest.
One of the consultancy jobs I did in the 1980s was working for a government organisation. It built simulators for sonar and other military systems. To develop the user interfaces for these computer controlled systems. So I was involved a lot in the design of good UIs. A long time ago but some of the ideas are still relevant now.

Replying is an integral part of interacting with all the elements of a thread. You would never design a system to break that up. The advertisement placed there would obviously be disruptive to the flow of the user interface. Particularly if you want to limit the intrusiveness of adverts.

Also that is why I thought the ads that looked like posts were particularly nasty.

Why are admin still posting on the old site? When will that be shut down? Surely everyone should be transitioned over to here now?
