Feedback on new site thread

My alert preference is set to receive a notification when I’m mentioned in a profile post or comment. Nothing received though
Strangely I think it is the in a message option you really need. I struggled to understand it.

I think a profile post or comment is something that is written on someones profile. A message is what we know of as a post on the old board. That is where I did the @Malaguena.

I thought a message sounds like it is part of the conversation system. However I think that is defined as a message in a conversation (which is one of the options).

All as clear as mud.

I've added the alert "mentioned in a message" and I've received these (as an alert on my profile, not an email as I was expecting)

I had a quick look and there does not seem to be the same granularity of choice on the email options. I prefer alerts as the only way of being notified so it works OK for me.

Now that we've got the ability to post videos, it might be very useful if someone could do captures of how to use the various functions of the site and have them in a dedicated sticky thread.
I'm thinking of the Conversations feature, the links feature, the video feature etc.
Agreed there are some aged fans who are not at all familiar with the workings of the board, even definitions ie "what is a profile post etc. No doubt it is simple but even simple unknowns can be a block to full participation. UTB and long may Warnock stay. Lets be fair to George to many quick to blame him for everything. A lot of folks are a tad like Tory MPs they follow the herd, "everyone knows his legs have gone".

@Bootlebarth

Here is an intro. I hope it is correct.

Think of this forum as like the old message board. The first difference is that you can have more than one of them. When someone joins they join the set of forums (boards), not just a single one.

So if you click on the forum button you get a list of forums (2 at present). It is possible that Rob might add more in the future.

On the same page as the list of forums is a list of profile posts. These are public messages that one member can send to another that everyone can see.

When you click on the forum name in the list of forums you are taken to a message board. This is like the old board. Made up of threads and posts. However the new board calls the posts messages.

A new feature is the ability to hold private conversations (access via the envelope icon) with one or a number of other members. These are called conversations. The messages here are called conversation messages.

All members have a profile. There they can publish some information about themselves that everyone can see. Also they can set up their preferences. For things like receiving emails or alerts (a little notification inside the board itself - accessed via the bell icon) when certain events occur. The default email preferences are set up badly so you have to switch them all off to stop receiving loads of emails.

One of the things you can do is mark a thread as watched.

By default when you first register you are set up to automatically watch any threads that you post in. Plus you are automatically set up to get emails when someone posts on a watched thread.

When you switch off all email notifications this stops all NEW threads from generating email notifications to you. The existing watched threads continue to send you email when someone posts on them.

You have to unwatch any watched threads to stop getting email notifications completely.

Finally in this intro. There is a way of highlighting a user in a post. Like I did to you at the top. By typing an @ sign before your name. In your profile you can set yourself up to receive an alert (not an email) when this occurs.

There is a lot more to learn. At least this is a start.

Don't Threads move up to top when someone posts

Am I right in thinking this should happen. Been looking for threads and end up searching for them. For example the New Music thread I always have to do a search even when I have posted an update. If it doesnt come to top most posters won't know if it has been updated.

As I commented on the other thread. If you have the originator of a thread on your ignore list then you never see the thread in normal circumstances. Apart from searching for it I guess.

My preference would be that, as on the old board, after posting it takes you to the main forum page, rather than after your post it staying on that thread. As I say, a preference rather than a gripe

Still getting the same issue here. Workaround is to delete cookies and log back in seems to work for a short while then same issue happens again.

Interestingly I was logged out a few mins ago, but the site believed I was logged in, wonder if this is related to the issue?

Rob... any ideas on this one? I'm not the only one and it's frustrating that its a struggle to post anything.

Can someone help with cookies. Site is running really really slow for me. Occasionally get an error message saying I need to accept cookies but can't see anywhere to do that?
Running Google Chrome browser on phone.

Rob, as per my posts above in this thread, do you know what the solution is? Its something to do with the site as it happens on any device. I'm not alone and its so frustrating. Takes about half an hour to reply to a message as the page is just blank or won't load - mostly get an "Oooops something went wrong" banner after about 5 minutes". If you have no idea then fine, but please let me know and I will try to re-register. Thanks

If it works fine while you aren't logged in but not while you are then it isn't an accident. It means your account has been restricted. Almost certainly because you said something that borolad didn't agree with. See the thread "FAO Rob" on the old board.

Ah OK, well I'm not aware that I've posted anything that would be against the site T&C's. We all have our own views on football, politics, life etc, but if I've been restricted because I have posted something that has offended Borolad, then any chance Rob or Borolad can let me know.

If I'm not in breach of the T&C's then I fully expect my account to be unrestricted if that is the case. Thanks in advance
