Being at Roker Park stood in the Roker Terrace 13 years old with a few of my mates on Arthur Harrisons coach from the Rosie Pub 73/74 Winning 2-0 Foggon and Mills over 40,000 there, and I was at the front of the terrace with my legs through the hoops in the wall at pitch side, and believe it or not - we were being protected/ looked after by Sunderland fans. (wouldnt happen these days or would it?)
When the linesman flagged Dennis Tueart offside, Tueart ran right up to the lino and put the V`s up and told him where to go, the Linesman flagged the referee had a word and Tueart was sent off. I didnt realise at the end of the game Bobby Kerr was also dismissed at the final whistle.
I've had to look at this tbh, we were 9 points ahead of Luton after this match (2 points for a win) I think it was in March we were promoted and a game or so we were declared champions. Doesn't or didnt get much better at Roker park - how could it.
I've had some horror show there too.
I would have loved to have been at last seasons 4-0 away, I still watch it now.
I don't mind Sunderland tbh, my old fellah pulled a face if I slagged off Sunderland, Newcastle, Darlo, Pools, he was a big fan of the North East players of his generation. My mother in law was from Sunderland and was a good un and I've worked with lots of Sunderland fans and Durham pit yak Sunderland supporters over the years. Some aren't all there with the disgraceful stuff they come out with, much like some of ours at times. This is my favourite game in football, and I love to beat them. It will be a tough un tonight though.
