Merson. The term 'too good for this league' gets thrown around a lot.
This guy was the absolute standout player on the pitch. Every week. I'm not even sure how or why he ended up in the champo.
I remember at one point the sun's goal pullout gave him a 9 or 10 every week for over a month. Just oozed class. He pretty much made every single player on the pitch look 'ordinary'.
I remember a random game. Port Vale away. I just watched in amazement as to how good he was. I'm pretty sure we won 0-1 and he scored. God knows why that game springs to mind
Yes it's a shame that many won't remember him like that. Yet he has to be the best one season wonder we've ever had.
