This is a bit left-field but are there any fans of Cossack choir music on here? I can’t be the only one on, can I?

(The following songs are well worth a listen, for something a bit different. The lyrics of this song and the third one I posted are quite something😬)

I’ve always been a fan of the ‘loud quiet loud’ and the ‘building to a crescendo’ types of music and some of these songs follow similar patterns.

Take, for example, one of my favourite Cossack songs called ‘when we were at war’ which starts out relatively quiet with Viktor Sorokin singing accompanied by an accordion and a balalaika. Each verse then sees more and more instruments joining in, and eventually the backing singers until it reaches a crescendo of sound. It’s well worth listening to if you’ve never heard it before.

Tip: listen with earphones 👍🏻

Then there’s a song called Bandura, sung by a Basso profondo singer whose voice is complemented impressively by the female backing singers. There’s also a ‘burst’ of noise at the 2:06 mark, where the instruments and female singers kick in at the same time, and it sounds great.

Please add more if you’re into this kind of thing. 👍🏻

Excellent. I’ve not heard that one before. 👍🏻

Have you heard the song Katyusha? I first heard it on The Deer Hunter but couldn’t find a decent version of it anywhere until I found a really good performance from quite an unlikely source… The Kuban Children’s Cossack Choir.

I’ve found myself liking the Smiths more and more as I’ve got older, for some reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve had a quick swipe through those songs (because I don’t have time to listen to it all the way through, but I will when I get the chance) and they sound great. I’m definitely gonna look into more of their stuff. Cheers.
