I could very much do with picking your brains over something exercise-related if you wouldn't mind? Would be much appreciated 👍

Hey Scuba, what can I help you with?
Hi mate, hope you're well.

Here's the thing - at the start of lockdown (April time), I was training three times a week doing circuits in the garage for 45 mins or so. I felt good as a result. Fitter, lighter and was eating well too. In about July, I did the same workout one night but instead of feeling good and uplifted, I felt awful. Light-headed, spaced out and really depressed and down. I tried again a week or so later and same again.

Now, even if I go on a walk that involves intense climbing or steps (which leads to a lot of sweating), instead of feeling invigorated afterwards I just feel down and like I have tension in my head. Even plenty of water doesn't shift it. My mental health has deteriorated as the course of the year's gone on (constant anxiety/stress) so I'm wondering if it could be linked to that? Otherwise I'm starting to worry if there's something seriously wrong with me, physically. I just get depressed now when people mention how good they feel after a run/workout etc and I know it has the opposite effect on me. Basically any intense exercise makes me feel terrible mentally. I don't know what to do because it used to be a great release for me.

If you could shed any light on the matter I'd be very grateful, thank you 👍👍

How has your diet changed? Sounds like you might be working out at too high of a calorie deficit? I'm no scientist, just going of similar experiences. There's eating well and there's eating right.. if you know what I mean.
Hi newy

My diet hasn't changed (during the day) from when I felt good after working out to when I started feeling terrible. Like I say though, my mental health has declined over the course of the year so it could be that my body is exhausted from the anxiety/stress/overthinking/OCD. But I also get health anxiety too, so I'm concerned that there's something seriously physically wrong with me. I haven't tried a workout in a while now because I'm so wary of feeling worse afterwards. I even felt like it after a (9km) walk with my mate a couple of weeks back.

The change from ‘eating poorly‘ to ‘eating well‘ it sounds like a calorific deficit. Anxiety and stress will obviously make you feel worse.. have you thought have adding a some meditation/breathing into your workout routine? a 9km wall can take it out of you, a decrease in the amount of sugar you are putting into your body alcohol/caffeine/nicotine withdrawals have the same effect.
