Was rereading Ingleby_Flash's thread about slicing his grid to pieces 😜.
What are you using at the moment in your quest for the DFS/BBS shave?

Currently using a Parker 99r with Personna red blades.
Wilkinson Sword brush.
Old Spice cream (it doesn't smell of Old... Spice).
Finish off with some of the green Proraso lotion. The smell doesn't last at all, but leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturised.
Bought a 1948 Gillette Superspeed the other day ...very mild non aggressive shave. Not bad but not as good as the Parker.

Interested to know what other DE users are using...and just remember, we're saving money and the planet👍👍👍

Used to use a Merker Futur with pure badger brush and l'occitane cade soap in a dish. The last time I had a wet shave was my wedding day coming up four years ago as I now just use a iStubble and Phillishave (sorry to disappoint). More of a time thing than anything else, also prefer the look.

I've got the 99r as well - doesn't always stay properly closed so I'm pretty careful with it. I have three different sorts of blades on the go: Bolzano, Elios andan East European (aka Gillette) brand. I'm finding that very few of them give more than one shave, and some are not as sharp as I'd like. I once tried some expensive Japanese blades and they were vicious. Don't use any shaving-specific afters, just general skin care stuff. I also have a W/S brush but haven't taken to it so far - probably the soap isn't good enough for decent lather.

I use a merkur with Derby blades. Taylors of Old Bond St shaving soap (but currently using Cella almond soap that I read about on here) Rub over with alum block, rinse and then apply Nivea post shave balm.

When I can be @rsed.

Rockwell with 6 different heads for me - i usually use no4 for first then no2 for second shave - i cant do 3, i just havent got the skin for it. Proraso pre shave creme is fantastic for me. Some shaving oil then taylors shaving cream or proraso. Then taylors post shave cream along with the nivea gear that needs to be mixed.
after half an hour i will use proraso balm. big fan of proraso, me, like. 😁

I’ve got loads of de razors and tend to rotate around them. Same with blades really, currently using Wilkinson sword blues. Brush is a custom shavemac from https://shavemac.com/en/home/3-brush-comopser.html

For soap I use this, it’s expensive but very good.

Used a lot of American artisan ones and wish we had the same sort of micro industry here as they're expensive to import

Derby blades (about a fiver a 100) plus whatever soap came with it, although I usually don't bother with soap. I certainly don't use perfume.

This is more like it, a good old DE shaving thread:

Merkur 34C razor.
Personna Platinum Blades (the German ones made in Solingen)
Omega 10066 boar bristle brush.
Tabac shaving soap stick
To finish a choice of either P&B Trafalgar or Iceni shave lotion or Tabac aftershave.

Just finished some Wilkinson Sword blades, good shaves but extra care required to avoid cuts and nicks, won't be getting them again.

Bambaw bamboo handle
arko in a bowl
badger’s ar5e brush
astra blades
Nivea post shave balm
and I’m now the proud owner of a pack of styptic matches 🙄 not used one yet.

Overall it’s not a very exciting rig, could do with an upgrade, last handle I had was steel, skinny and too light, didn’t like it. I’d be happy with suggestions for any upgrades on that.

Also why isn’t there a spike in the bottom of the bowl to stop the occasional soap bid for freedom.

Merkur 34C is specifically a heavier weight and has a short, thick(er) (75mm) handle. It's also a 2 piece assembly which I find limits the amount of tightening torque you can exert when screwing the thing together, I have a nasty habit of snapping the screw off the head on 3 piece razors however hard a try not to over tighten them.

Taylors of Old Bond St makes a lovely lather - my favourite.

Think it's a merkur like above ( would have to check emails) but I use the feather blades and Celia 1kg tub for value and because I can't be bothered ordering more than once a year!.

Used to use Mitchell's wool fat and Taylor's sandalwood but find they both take a while to get a lather where at the Celia is much quicker

On the strength of this thread I bought an Alum block and some Taylor’s of Old Bond Street shaving soap, used both for the first time this morning.

When i lathered up I thought it was going to be too thick, but it’s brilliant. Think it was cedar wood? (Why is every fragrance designed for men based on wood? Do they think we all want to smell like sheds!)

Didnt know what an Alum block was until it was mentioned above so had to google it.

Somehow between the two I feel like I’ve had my best shave ever, seems like a closer shave too, though can’t see that could be the case. Good result though 👍

Used some Personna Lab Blue blades today. Really good results, really good. Got some Personna Med Prep blades too... they're supposed to be even better.
