Fans Forum Discussion

Why not start a plan of action?
Basically I don't want to start a plan of action right now myself. But for those that do I suggest when the 2 books are published soon that would be a really good opportunity to open a debate up about how to remember our greatest goalscorer - the books will certainly be a great memorial on their own. But if people want a statue then surely that would be a great opportunity to start the ball rolling. Don't wait for someone else, the club, the council etc start something at that point.

Have a think everyone - what other points would you like raising with other supporters and also with Middlesbrough Football Club?
What sort of match day experience would you hope for next season?
A safe one. A communal one. A successful one. Something to excite everyone and get us all involved.
How should the Riverside look? Inside and outside?
The club has limited funds, we know that but are there things we could all do to make it a better experience at what will be a big restart?
Are there elements from the last year of "lockdown" that have worked well and could continue? Am thinking of the way the club maybe interacts and engages with fans.
GRFZ - have looked at giving more value to the season ticket and matchday ticket - thereby they start from up to 3 hours before kick off with entertainment and structured education for the kids. Are there things that can be learned from this approach?
Anyone that has attended the virtual concourses will know it is a great way to build up to the game - unfortunately it can only go out to 30 and not 30 000 people - but I hope it continues and wonder whether there could be more match day build up at the ground - using the big screen, concourse screens (if they are open) and outdoor areas as well reaching out through mobiles etc. More involvement with fans.
I know a lot of people just want to go to the match and watch the football. But can we go the other way and extend the day afterwards for half an hour or more at the ground. It works in the North Stand. Can it work in other stands?
Just a few discussion points that come to my mind today..

That's a very good question
Plan of action:

CONCEPT:
put out an open call through the likes of Mima/Pineapple Black/The Auxillery to come up with an interesting idea, could be taken straight from a photgraph or it could be something a little more leftfield?

DESIGN:
contact the uni - see if there are any 3d modelling whizzkids able to create the george campsell model
rapid prototyping, see if the uni or any local firms can transform said model into life sized metal sculpture
it could be in several parts (i'm assuming rapid prototyping has size limitations)

FUND:
funding for arts/sporting projects are generally well received, perhaps some local engineering firms would like to jump on it too?

BUILD:
a FMTTM/MIMA/Teesside Uni/MFC/ARRK Europe Ltd* collaborative sculpture designed and built by teessiders.. sounds like a larf.

INSTALL:
pretty sure we could get on of the local construction firms to install it too.. we can get karen nelson to put in the planning permission.. guaranteed to go through!!

Middlesbrough College do that for sport I believe - they wanted the Sports Village built there but probably better to build it where the general public can access it better I think. But they are a centre of excellence for sport.

The Brian Clough statue was put out to tender nationally and one of the top sculptors at the time was employed on the job. Vivien Mallock She had to agree to provide several maquette models first, then it is scaled up. The maquettes were used as insurance against future problems with the statue - this proved important.
But our first step was to ensure there were thousands of people behind the idea of commemorating Cloughie. It was advertised in the Gazette for ideas of how to do this. Then a committe was formed between fans, family, Boro, Council (and latterly fundraising specialists). It took about 5 years I believe from start to finish. Therefore you need to make sure you have a lot of support. The last VC statues outside the Dorman were fundraised much more quickly.
My thinking is once the two books are published everyone will be talking about George Camsell and then we can have a big discussion on the next steps. Should it be a statue, should it be another form of memorial, where should it be sited? (The Riverside never existed in his lifetime - is that relevant? And all along the way stay in touch with the family and their wishes should be central.

Did u get anywhere, when u asked about a happy meal for the kids. Like chips, fish finger/nuggets /burger drink and fruit bag at a reasonable price. Not have our eyes out. The club could make a small sum. As so many people buy from outside the ground

I like the thought of the stadium being that colour red

Will the concourses be open?
Mark Motley is monitoring this thread for suggestions - so don't worry am not ignoring/rubbishing things.
Membership cards - could these not be Boro Pride Cards?

Hi Rob,
Probably not one for the meeting this time, but it was discussed previously.

What on earth happened to the Middlesbrough supporters vs Derbyshire Police case?

January or February 2020 the judge retired to consider his verdict and there has been no word since!
Just curious as it was in the press and on here at the time, but silence ever since.
Thanks

The judge ruled against the fans - or more or less.. it is a strange way these things evolve/devolve - No jury. No time limits etc for judgement.
The fans had to decide if they were prepared to take it further or against Notts police - that is where it was at when Pandemic struck, as far as I know.

Thanks Rob. I cannot even find anything online about the judgement.

It was five years to raise the funds. Not to build it.
We did all sorts of events - bucket collection at Riverside. Transporter public walkovers. First ever bungee from Transporter. A couple of gigs featured Alistair Griffin and British Sea Power. An auction. etc..

oh, blooming eck! how much was it?

OK the next Fans Forum meeting is on Monday - agenda has to be forwarded on by noon tomorrow - does anyone have any big ideas or questions they want to ask the club?

more fan involvement for the new kits. i know its just bull.. but having the choice of a few designs was a bit fun.

I do think the membership cards would be a good idea also.

Yes. Voting on a few kit designs, even away kits was good fun, wasn't it.
And possibly indicated which was most popular.
Membership cards - I know you were talking about paying for a card for privileges. This could be a revival of the Boro Pride card couldn't it - something that potentially makes (not every) match by match fans feel a part of things at the club.
