Face masks

I wear them at work when working with the lads or contractors ,petrol stations etc its a habit formed now, but like any situation it just reduces the luck needed. There are no guarantees but it help stop against people with gung ho stupidity.

Seen a few places online offering 'reusable' masks, how do these work? Can you simply rinse them under the sink, put them in a washing machine?

Genuine question...

Just another name for cloth masks. Yes according to some you can just rinse them off in hot soapy water. I have to wear one at work but trust me after sweating in one for 10 hours in 40° heat mine goes in the washing machine. 🤣

I have a few washable bandana type just mild soapy water, company P3 must wear for work, and we now have hudreds of surgical ones at home for the family if they go to shops etc:)

It's as simple as that. Masks make sense. It's why I'm genuinely bewildered by the people arguing against them. Both the amount of people and the vehemence with which they are arguing.

Like I said earlier, it's so simple to see for yourself: just try fogging a mirror with a mask on. That SHOULD teach you all you need to know about how it's stopping water vapour, which is what the virus is carried on.

You keep peddling that but it’s utter rubbish, the standard cloth and neoprene re usable face masks don’t stop fogging at all, proper masks do but as you said above were not talking about that, these masks/ covering are not to any standard and basically stop nothing certainly Not vapour.

My source is me, I bought a few different
Ones yesterday and just tried them on my hall mirror, I also have a lot of years experience working with respiratory protection including specifying them for major chemical and industrial companies throughout the region.

You must have amazing lung capacity. I can't fog up a mirror anywhere near as much in my mask. Are you a swimmer?

I do have good lung capacity as do quite abit of powerlifting.

Surgical masks initially don’t fog I’m going to try every ten minutes to see how long they offer protection for. Many people are using these as reusable as well so will be interesting to see what results I get.

You should get your work peer reviewed, it seems to be out of odds with what I'm observing AND with what medical professionals and scientists are saying. Interesting

Maybe, but just as many scientists and medical professionals don’t agree as do most of the respiratory protection experts I speak to regularly.

It’s all very subjective and people see and believe what they want to in results that can be interpreted either way.

FFp2 and FFp3 offer good protection from water particles ( not the virus itself ), so far the surgical Mask seems to be stopping my breath as well but the neoprene / cloth masks are a waste of time.

10 mins in and the surgical mask is now showing slight misting on the mirror.

so we need to be wearing FFp2 and FFp3 masks? That's interesting. (BTW it WILL stop the virus, as the virus is carried on the water vapour)

On the subject of vapour. The purpose of the mask is to reduce the velocity at which droplets are dispersed as we breathe, cough or sneeze, hence the need to maintain social distancing in concert with this measure.

I'm rather sick of harping on about this but let's give it one more go. This is about numbers. A mask will not prevent or stop the spread of COVID, wearing masks reduces the spread so if perhaps you have the virus and you go to do your weekly shop at Cainsbury's (typo but I'll let it go) with a mask you might pass the virus to a single person, without a mask it is likely that you might pass the virus on to several people.

There are no magic bullets there is only sensible social responsibility to try and reduce the spread of the virus.

My mask protects YOU, your mask protects ME.
