F&@K THAT SH£T RIGHT INTO THE SEA!!

We drag out heals in the transfer window apparently chasing the likes of Greaves, Choudhury, Hannibal, Armstrong, Larsen, Riis, Gyokores.. THREE FIRST TEAM SPECIAL ONES ‘DOING SOMETHING BIG’ Talk about challenging the top six with talk of a Gary Monk like backing with a recruitment team pulling out all the stops. Tanking the first seven games in the hope of a perfect window. Were not far off Tony Mowbray scratching around for freebies after the devastation Gordon Strachan wreaked upon the club.

The squad numbers that Chris Wilder was looking to fill made sense when looking at our squad, the players that have left and us supposedly having one eye on promotion/playoffs..

7 Marcus Tavernier
10 Martin Payero
11 Andraz Sporar

The transfer window concerning these positions passed us by somewhat.. even to the point where it looked like we were only looking to fill the position of a defensive midfielder in on loan. Choudhury/Hannibal/Ampadu/Onyeka

Possibly Chuba Akpom and his numbers early door have laid waste to us bringing in another striker?

Then there’s Alex Mowett being spoken of as our replacement for Tavernier and McGree being preferred in his current number 10 role.

No more strikers? no more attacking midfielders? AND FINALLY a choice between Fabian Delph and Danny Drinkwater!

All of our eggs should be getting put in the Ross Barkley basket. His wages at Chelsea would have been prohibitive and no doubt if we had brought in Choudhury, Hannibal and Larsen it would have been a no go.

Oliver Abildgaard would have been my first choice, we were not linked but he did make a move on loan to Celtic.. a club that was also linked with Barkley. Whispers of Rangers and Southampton in the twittersphere do not concern me. I don’t think either one is going to offer wages and game time that would completely blow us out of the water and that’s if they are interested in the first place

To be told we are THREE players short after such a long protracted build up is a massive kick in the teeth for me as a fan. Wilder said ‘he had left numbers spare’ suggesting Kieran Scott.. who in turn said he was most interested the free transfer market.

7 Marcus Tavernier
10 Martin Payero - Ross Barkley UPGRADE
11 Andraz Sporar

Xeka is another midfielder would could chance our arm with.. talk of him looking to move back to Portugal may or may not true and again with our current financial situation whilst not over the top, I think we could manage to bring him in on a moderate wage.
Linked to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton., possible out of our league if there’s any truth in those.

Still.. surly now is the time to push the boat out? Opportunities are out there to improve the squad beyond what our finances dictate during the window. No point looking at players that are not as good as the players we were in for or that we were trying to replace. Double down, save money.. bring in better players!

Now onto an attacking midfielder to replace Marcus Tavernier.. ON A FREE TRANSFER!

It’s not gonna happen is it. We’d be lucky to get Fabian Delph over the line and if Jonny Howson can share his elixir of youth secrets then Danny Drinkwater will be a good edition too. I remember being unimpressed hearing of Dean Whitehead only to be shown the error of my ways. He was superb!!

Both with a professional attitude and winning mentality could prove invaluable as to bringing y on our younger players. Bamba, Peltier and Taylor were great for us last season.

As for the striker.. I can’t see any further than Andy Carroll not to start every game but + Giles crossing = goals. A point snatcher and a game killer. Things might not be that bad after all!

I'd have neither. One is a perma crock and the other fellout of love for football 5 years ago.

Definitely a reason both are without a club in September.

Dale stephens, gaston ramirez, Vydra, Barkley, D Costa, Juan Mata all free agents any worth a punt?

Lots available when you start to look but how many have the drive to come in and get there career going again or is it just one last pay.

Pay as you play or short term deals till Jan might be the best way forward!

there's definitely a reason why we are without players in September.. so much for Keiran Scott searching the European markets!

the strikers we were after were too expensive, the midfielders we were after were loan players and other clubs were preferred over ours.. perhaps looking at Crooks, Howson, Mowett, McNair, McGree and not expecting that much game time. there's another level that would have been there.. but that means being a better option than Gibson, Hackney, Conteh & Boyd-Munce. Ross Barkley remains the most realistic option.. how realistic his was expectations are and interest from other parties remains to be seen. HIs contract was terminated 29th August 2022.. so less than a week without a club.

the striker market we were looking at was also very limited.. looking at Muniz, Watmore, Akpom, Forss, Hoppe, Kavanagh & Finch.. anyone sub £10m would be lost in that mix. a genuine partner for Muniz who is gonna topple Akpom and consistently out perform Forss & Hoppe a gamble for us and a definite game for the player. Larsen seemed keen, but we couldn't compete with £10m, a six year deal and La Liga football.

Newy, have you ever thought of being a football manager?
I think most fans have considered.. big difference from stating the obvious on a message board out of context without knowing what's been going on behind closed doors and actually donning the tracksuit and going through the motions day in and day out. Mooner/Moaner/Gobsh*te

Dale Stephens would be solid
Gaston Ramirez.. as much as WIlder said attacking midfielder/number 10 he wouldn't have it. our fans wouldn't either
Matej Vydra not fit until the new year
Ross Barkley would be good
Diego Costa off to Rayo Vallecano.. I think
Juan Mata heard he was off to Valencia

If we want to bring players in which it sounds like it from what Chris Wilder has said.. then it's free agents or nuthin

GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst last night revealed Rangers did not make any further signings before the transfer window closed because he is content with the size and strength of his squad – and stressed they had never considered making a move for Ross Barkley.

The Daily Mail have reported that Southampton are currently ‘leading the race’ to sign Barkley, though speaking to HampshireLive on Friday, Hasenhuttl said he couldn’t predict whether he would need to use the free agency market but admitted it was unlikely.

“Not really, but you never know what happens,” said the Austrian when asked if he had plans to sign any free agents. “Hopefully we have no injuries or something like that, that is always the most important thing.

According to journalist Mark Hendry, both the Hoops – and Old Firm rivals Rangers – could well be in with a chance of landing the 28-year-old, with the transfer insider writing on Twitter: “Understand Barkley knows he won’t earn the same wage he‘s been on at Chelsea wherever he goes. Ultimately he’s earning nothing until he joins a new club so it’s actually potentially a doable deal for either Glasgow club. It’s down to Ross Wilson and whether he fancies pursuing.”

For weeks now I've said Diego Costa....at his age not as mobile maybe, it would still ruffle feathers in the champ.

I’d try Delph on trial to see if he’d be useful for a short term deal at least, nothing to lose. He comes with an excellent mentality and is/was a defensive midfielder with energy, just what we need.

The rest of them, there’s a lot of mental or physical questions. Free agents is a real buyer’s market though, get them in for two weeks and see if they want to play.
