He was threatening poll all the way through qualifying today.

Can he sustain it for the full race tomorrow?

Time will tell, Piastri and Norris didn’t seem all out during qualifying, no need to take any risks if their car is faster.

The Ferraris looked quick as well, could have had poll but for driver errors.

If Verstappen gets away in the lead he’ll be tough to beat.

The McLaren is way better on race pace, it will be impossible to keep them behind unless it rains
 
What an incredible lap from Max, in a car his talented team mate couldn't get out of Q1 with.

Jenson suggested recently that Max is already the best of all time.

I see what Button is saying and Verstappen could end up being the best. As is stands now, he isn’t as good as Hamilton. Especially as most people know Hamilton should be 8 times World Champion.

I think if it was a sport rather than a circus then Hamilton would be viewed as the GOAT, or at least on a par with Senna.
 
Just to counter the above posts:

1. Max is half a second a lap faster than his last half dozen team mates. While, on the other hand Lewis has been outpointed by his team mate 2 out of the last 3 seasons and this season seems like it could be 3 out of the 4.

2. Number of Championships won is only one factor in F1. Vettel has won twice as many as Alonso but no one who watchers the sport would remotely suggest that peak Vettel was anywhere near as good as peak Alonso.

IMO Max is at least two tenths faster than Lewis, probably more.

I find it funny you talk about peak vs peak but when talking about max your talking about past peak Hamilton

Surely if you’re comparing them you need to look at Hamilton at his peak in 2014/2015 ?
 
I think a peak Hamilton, vs Verstappen, in the same car, there wouldnt be alot between them. Id put Hamilton marginally ahead, also Hamilton has the pace and the racecraft, whereas Verstappen in my view only has pace. He doesn’t like it when someone starts pressuring him, then resorts to dirty tricks. Although i do think he is starting to mature a bit more in that regard.

A rookie Hamilton very nearly beat peak Alonso when team mates at McLaren.

Hamilton was absolutely brilliant at one point. Just as good if not better than Verstappen.
