Fábio Rochemback

He was good and was on a different wavelength to the rest of the midfield. Dont forget southgate had mathew bates in midfield. Poor decsion to get rid of rocky.

I agree entirely with the fact we should have taken up the contract extension option, but I think Arca played very well for us. Him and Rocky had a good understanding together until Arca got crocked.

From what I could see there were serious issues off the field.
Firstly we had to reduce the wage bill.
Secondly he seemed to be led astray by Alves. They both become unreliable, failing to even turn up for community events. That implied their actions off the field would also have become more problematic.

Excellent player indeed, lovedo watching him play.
Can't say the same about any of the current crop I'm afraid.

He was alright and outstanding on the odd occasion but not often. Brilliant in the Basel and Bucharest games. I have to say I remember him being garbage in quite a few games too, especially early on, his set pieces were dreadful. Overall he was a good player for us though and I wanted us to give him the extension at the time.

He was extremely inconsistent. On his day he was outstanding, but far too partial to Bud plus.
He was miles more important than Arca. Southgate may have had his hands tied on some things and hung out to dry, but he did make some really bad calls in the summer prior to the relegation season.

Also got done for speeding through Yarm whilst drunk in his Ferrari around that time.

My recollection of him was he never lost the ball. regardless of how much pressure he was under. I thought he was great and I do recall a fair bit of stick being flung his way at the time.

A great player. He was always capable of real class, perhaps not the forever the consistency , but I smile when I think how good he was , and what about his free kick against Man City.

I thought he was outstanding as well.
I asked and was granted an interview with him near the end of his final season. But at the last minute he asked for an interpreter, Zalia, a lovely lady, she worked with Spanish and Portuguese speakers at Boro. We did the interview inside the Riverside on seats. But the problem was for every question I posed, Fabio paused and gave a reply after Zalia has translated. Then I would wait for Zalia who would turn to me and say. "Yes."

I've always liked a player who looks like they're carrying a bit of timber and is on the beer and fags during the week. They develop their technique because they can't do the running about. See also Tomlin and windass.

The club should have put on a few **** fighting events if they'd wanted him to get more involved in community activities.

Alves and Fabio failed to turn up once to an event. It was really unusual and Southgate would not have been impressed, nor Gibson if he had been informed. I was told by a Brazilian friend that Alves had open house once a week for the Brazilian community in the area (there weren't many and so they mostly knew each other well) and sadly that probably impacted on him and Fabio as well.
