Extremely annoying things that try your patience

Surely 'steamroller' is just the name used by a lot of people to describe the modern day equivalent? Even though they are no longer powered by steam.

So what should they be called?
(I'm only asking so I don't get laughed at by mucky faced workmen wearing yellow jackets by the side of the road).
Would 'big wheeled heavy squasher' be acceptable?
No mate, they are simply just called " Rollers "
There is a light roller, heavy roller and a multi roller.

They still use water with a detergent added and this is to stop the bitumen from sticking to the roller itself which prevents the ripping up of the surface.
The bitumen of course is piping hot when first laid and naturally steam will appear from the newly laid surface.

Just to expand a little. ( Here in oz anyway )

The light roller will follow behind the hopper which lays the bitumen.
After the the light roller has rolled the length of surface several times, the heavy roller then comes on site
and rolls over the already lightly rolled surface.
Finally after the heavy roller has rolled the surface several times also, the multi roller then comes on site
which finishes off the rolling process.

When cars have to stop for you when the lights turn red at a pelican crossing, and they give a dirty look or rev their engines. Bloody hell, it's freezing, raining miserable weather and they have to stop in their nice warm tin boxes for 30 seconds while you cross.

Every day I walk over a narrow bridge from where I live to go to the beach, shops or just for the walk.
There is a sign at both approaches to the bridge that requires cyclists to give way to pedestrians.
Without fail, either on my way there or on the way home a cyclist speeds past without so much as a ring
from their bell or an " excuse me " or even bother to slow down.

Like I say, it is a narrow bridge with one lane in either direction for cars and a narrow footpath for pedestrians.
It would only take a slight deviation of travel from the pedestrian for there to be a calamity.

The vista from the bridge is a beautiful one and many pedestrians suddenly stop and move over towards the fence
to take in the views or to watch ferries, boats, canoes or jet skis go under the bridge.

I've yelled out many times to them " Don't you have a bell ? and I feel my fist and jaw tightening.
They carry on regardless and luckily for them that they do. 👊🥾
It's the same at Tees Barrage especially on the North side where there are no markings. I think some are on their Stravas looking for P Bs

I'm a keen cyclist myself but there a group of them. Especially down here in London who's arrogance and self righteousness is staggering. I've seen them getting angry at car for overtaking them. Breaking plenty of rules of the road and just generally being obnoxious. Skipping red lights is the big one. I even had the usual argument with one once "but studies show its safer..." yeah? Well last month I was walking across the road on the green man and one cyclist nearly hit into me, and the most have been going about 20 mph, it was a good downhill stretch. Tell me how it's safer

If I'm out walking and anyone revs their engine as I'm crossing then I just go soooooo slowly, even stopped once and pretended to take a phone call.

Not big or clever but it made me feel really good. Especially seeing his face turn puce.

If 2 identical cars are travelling at 70 and 100 mph respectively and both brake at the same time, when the car that was doing 70 comes to a complete standstill, the car that was doing 100 mph will have slowed down to..... 70 mph. That's why the speed limit isn't 90 mph, regardless of the car and how safe it is deaths would increase massively

I think if I said steamroller most people would get the idea. I certainly don't think I would deserve to be laughed at for days on end. I might get even more ridiculed if I got my hoppers/light rollers/heavy rollers mixed up.

I don't think deaths will increase massively. If it all. I agree for us to have reasonable speed limits driving standards need to improve and lane discipline in particular

Fair enough if the green man changes to red mid-cross, but from the car driver's point if view it's annoying when the man is red, the pedestrian looks up and sees the traffic lights are also red so decides to start crossing. Then the traffic lights change to green. The man is red for a reason.

I cycle too but have the decency to dismount when I go over that bridge.
I don't expect others to do the same but jeez, how hard is it to ring a bell ?

That's what I thought but hey, that's Aussies for ya. :ROFLMAO:

I think some blokes get irrationally angry that someone has had the audacity to press the button, make the lights go red and them have to stop.

Nailed on domestic abusers the lot of them in my opinion.
